Turkish shipbuilder <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/224" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Turquoise Yachts (Company)">Turquoise Yachts</a> has transferred its 79-metre in-build yacht Toro from its Kocaeli facility to its Pendik shipyard in Turkey. "When purchasing a multi-million euro villa, one of the first things you'd do is hire a technical surveyor/auditor to check the foundation, to ensure the very bones of the house are in order before signing the contract, no? In yachting, it's the same," says Andrea Carlevaris, founder and CEO of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2870" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ACP Surveyors (Company)">ACP SURVEYORS</a>, when asked to explain what his company does. "But unlike in real estate, most of the time, the future owner of a superyacht does not know who the pre-purchase surveyor is - even though our check is key to securing and signing the deal." One of the industry leaders in pre-purchase surveying, new-build supervision and yacht refits, Carlevaris is well-aware that his area of expertise may not always receive the recognition it warrants. Still, it remains a vital part of the industry. In 2005 <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2870" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ACP Surveyors (Company)">ACP</a> was founded and started with the project management and build supervision of a 60m new construction. Since then, Carlevaris has focused on cultivating the best possible team to offer the highest level of service. "We currently have a team of 15 people in-house, each with their own skill set, expertise and qualifications." It is one of the few surveying companies with such a diversified in-house team. "One team member is attending a corrosion course this month to become a Frosio qualified inspector," says Carlevaris. All team members are provided with the latest state-of-the-art technology and tools to perform their inspections." Just to make an example, it can cost between 30,000 and 40,000 euros, and more for paint surveying tools, which we gladly invested in."<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/234620/image/large-8276b289c89f6eb0bc328e831a4da4b6.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/234620">As each team member holds their own area of expertise, it makes sense for Carlevaris to send out two surveyors or more for certain jobs, depending on the size of the yacht in case of a pre-purchase. "When you are looking to purchase a yacht and are making such an important investment, doesn't it make sense to have the appropriate team of experts on hand to know everything you need to know beforehand?"Recognising that surveyors are part of the service industry, Carlevaris instils premium customer service and relationship management skills in his team. "We aim to give our clients a premium experience each time. To us, it's not just about gauging the performance of the yacht but how we perform the checks and we present and convey that information to the client, so he can make a well-informed decision." However, we are aware that too much information kills the information. Therefore we present it in clearly organised executive summaries, which put the client or his family office who might not be familiar with the subject, in the position to understand the content and make informed decisions.Further leveraging his prior experience working at sea, Carlevaris ensures that, especially during new builds, the crew and captain find the perfect environment to work in. "We value the feedback from the field. For this reason, we maintain solid relationships with highly qualified crew, captains, engineers, chief stewardesses, especially those who stay in their position for long. The project initially began on speculation, before she was sold to her owner in 2018.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/199451/image/large-3244823ce35d60a852aa2ce9a8cdf3b2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/199451">The yachts exterior lines were penned by Rome-based designer, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Andrea Vallicelli (Company)">Andrea Vallicelli</a>, with her naval architecture completed by her builder, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/224" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Turquoise Yachts (Company)">Turquoise Yachts</a>. She has an interior volume of 1,558 GT and six decks, four of which sit above sea level.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Andrea Vallicelli (Company)">Vallicelli&nbsp;</a>commented, “Visually, the decks decrease progressively towards the aft end creating a profile with strong diagonal lines that create harmony between the superstructure shapes and the hull.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/199453/image/large-4ee1954621822f297d4a054905f846f8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/199453">Her interior comes from the drawing boards of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ken Freivokh Design (Company)">Ken Freivokh Design</a> and can accommodate as many as 14 guests across seven staterooms. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5994" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Roe73.6m (241'6&quot;)Turquoise Yachts2021">NB66</a>'s 100 square-metre owner suite situated on the main deck is complete with a Jacuzzi, an office and access to a private deck. Several of her staterooms can be transformed into private saloons. Large windows are used throughout the staterooms and saloon areas, which allow for plenty of natural light.<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/148" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ken Freivokh Design (Company)">Freivokh</a> commented, “The design focus is on classical elegance. This is of course combined with the fact that I saw a market in need of greater technical expertise and engineering knowledge and I set out to fill that void.”Today, ACP offers a broad range of services from pre-purchase surveys to complete project management of New Builds and Refits. As a result, Andrea has established his reputation in the industry by consistently demanding the highest quality for his clients. He comments: “If you are looking for someone who you can completely trust to look after your investment, you have come to the right place.When we are supervising a new build, the process begins in one of two ways: either revising an existing build specification provided by the shipyard, or, if needed, drawing one up from scratch. Otherwise, we would reassure the buyer that the yacht is in a good state – if in fact this is the case. This is what we achieve with our Pre- Purchase Surveys. At times, our expertise is called upon to settle claims or to solve technical situations where improvements or repairs are needed. We perform the tasks with the utmost care and our in-house naval architects are definitely an asset.This is all well and good but aside from being experienced and giving valuable advice are you actually an accredited Marine Surveyor?All our surveyors at ACP are accredited. I am a Full Member of the International Institute of Marine Surveying and my colleagues are registered surveyors and registered naval architects in Italy. I believe that in order to obtain proper advice on technical matters only certified people should be involved. Our clients can also rely on the fact that we have a fully-certified in-house FROSIO paint inspector. This valuable service enables Captains and Engineers to more efficiently run the yacht, prepare for Flag State, or other statutory audits and inspections.The quality of work and the increased esteem for ACP is reflected by the success of their recent projects, consisting of 6 refits just this winter and 3 new builds on the go, the last one having just been delivered last month.Carlevaris discussed the projects with SuperYacht Times, commenting: We just delivered the latest AB116 sold by Verpeka Dolling where we did the specifications review and technical supervision. We also did about 20 pre-purchase surveys ranging from 110’ to 80 metre since the beginning of the year.”We would also like to mention that we are still proudly involved with Project ADORA, the 62-metre Benetti whose construction was supervised by ACP and delivered in 2010. On board Adora there are improvements carried out on a yearly basis requested by very sophisticated Owners. Superyacht of the week: The 34 metre Koji

The technical launch of the Leopard 34/18 took place on the first of August at the Leopard yard in Italy, in the presence of the yard PM Nicola Pollacchi and Owner’s representative Team Andrea Carlevaris &amp; Partners.<img src="/uploads/store/photo/63452/image/large-fbd5300c883d637e75f00fd872149b36.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/63452">This latest hull in the highly popular 34-metre superyacht series features an interior design by Luxury Projects and was built under Bureau Veritas.The new yacht is expected to be finished and delivered to his Owner by the end of September.
