Wintering in Porto Montenegro
There are a whole host of reasons why wintering in Porto Montenegro should be considered by every superyacht captain. From the operational benefits of berthing and running maintenance tasks throughout the winter, to tax benefits, to a wonderful social opportunity for keeping crew happy. Regardless of the astoundingly beautiful scenery one is surrounded by, there is so much on offer.
Opportunities for Crew
Access is exceedingly straight forward, with three international airports nearby, with direct connections to most European cities. A lot has to be said for the old adage that a happy crew onboard provides for a successful and efficient running of a yacht. The opportunities for crew to enjoy themselves during evenings onsite at the marina comes in the form of restaurants and bars with themed nights and parties throughout the winter months, a crew club, year-round shops, wood-oven pizzeria, spa, salon and much more. Speciality classes are on offer too such as pizza making or boat building.
There is also a superb sports club offering squash, tennis, yoga, tae bo and dance classes. Without question, the Porto Montenegro fun and professional team will look after your needs putting together unforgettable experiences which will in turn motivate your crew and colleagues. Even skiing at the weekends! The two ski resorts of Kolasin and Zabljak are within a few hours’ drive of the Marina. Porto Montenegro has a ski chalet free for all crew staying in the marina to use throughout the winter season. The resorts offer skiing, snowboarding, sledding and of course a great après ski and nightlife.
Sound fun? Well if skiing isn’t your thing, then the Porto Montenegro team will happily organise winter weekend getaways for crews to cities such as Sarajevo, Belgrade, Istanbul, Budapest and Rome to name but a few. It is safe to say that there really are plenty of opportunities on the doorstep. The 24-hour Yacht Assist team has an extensive network of local and international providers to help with any task.
Financial and Operational Benefits
Having touched on the motivational opportunities above, there are also many areas of financial and operational benefits in place for owners, captains and crew alike, further creating an attractive solution to wintering in Porto Montenegro. Being an official Port of Entry allows boats to clear customs directly at the marina. Fuel is also available directly at the marina and is duty and tax free for commercial and pleasure-registered yachts. Further financial benefits include reduced VAT on Marina Services at 7%, whilst Capital Gains, Income and Company Tax are 9%.
European Union Benefits are in place; Porto Montenegro is ideally located for non-EU registered boats wishing to be close to Europe, but outside of European Tax and Import Regulations. The favourable Import Regulations enable yachts to remain in Montenegro waters with no restrictions on length of time or requirements for import taxes.
Freedom Maritime ship’s chandler, and RYA training are important facilities on offer, including authorised service providers such as Shell, Yamaha, CM, Kohler, Deutz, Perkins, Northern Lights, MAN, ZF, Seadoo, Volvo Penta, CAT, Yanmar, MTU and Honda.
For those wishing to relocate with young families, specialist international schooling, implemented through partnerships with London-based Knightsbridge schools, supports the educational needs of the growing international community.
All in all, there are many and varied benefits for seriously considering spending this winter in Porto Montenegro. Their friendly and professional team are happy to assist with enquiries. They will be present at the Cannes Yacht Show between 6th and 11th September and the Monaco Yacht Show between 21st and 24th September, should you wish to arrange a meeting.
