Tuesday, 2 December 2008
Brandy Marine International, L.L.C. of Sarasota, FL, USA, has been selected to manage the new, state-of-the-art, full-service Marina Papagayo located at the exclusive resort development at Peninsula Papagayo on the northwestern Pacific coast of Costa Rica, one of the hottest new travel destinations in the world.
Marina Papagayo promises to be “the finest marina on the Pacific coast of Central America,” according to Capt. Bruce H. Blomgren, CEO and president of Brandy Marine International.
The 350-slip marina, located within the 2,300-acre Peninsula Papagayo resort development, will open Dec. 15, 2008 with 179 wet slips, ranging in size from 35’ to 120’ in length. The average size slip will be 60’ in length. Larger mega-yacht slips up to 240’ in length will open Dec. 20, 2008.
Brandy Marine assisted in all phases of development of the marina, including market and feasibility studies, marina basin design, assisting in overseeing construction and marketing the marina.
“Brandy Marine’s expertise in all aspects of the creation of Marina Papagayo and its management of the marina are key forces in creating one of the most dynamic amenities of the Peninsula Papagayo resort community,” said Alan Kelso, Chief Executive Officer for Peninsula Papagayo.
“Marina Papagayo is a vital and necessary element of this waterfront resort,” he said. “With our magnificent location on the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and access to big-game fishing and incredible offshore cruising opportunities, a state-of-the-art, professionally operated marina is significant for guests and residents of the community. "
“The 350-slip, full-service marina and its planned uplands amenities will offer guests and residents a superb, protected oasis for mooring and launching their vessels in an area of unparalleled natural beauty,” Kelso said. “Brandy Marine’s five-star, 'Bristol' style service will afford boaters the hands-on, concierge-style attention they have come to expect at a resort such as Peninsula Papagayo. With extensive marina and boating experience, depth of nautical knowledge and international reputation for quality, Brandy Marine is an extraordinary strategic partner in developing and building Marina Papagayo."
"When Marina Papagayo opens in December and becomes home to elegant, luxury mega-yachts and sport fishing yachts, the marina basin will be a visually stunning scene as well as an integral part of the resort," Kelso said.
Brandy Marine’s involvement in Marina Papagayo is illustrative of the company’s recent expansion into international markets. The 31-year-old Sarasota, Florida, U.S.A., company is currently working on market feasibility studies, marina designs and water transportation studies and providing consulting and marketing services to luxury resort marinas in the Turks & Caicos Islands, in the Bahamas, in the Dominican Republic, in Mexico and at other U.S. and international locations. As a consulting company, Brandy Marine has provided services to 550 clients in 13 countries. Brandy Marine is the oldest, third-party marina management company in America and was the first U.S. company to “collect” marinas into a chain linked by uniform management practices and operations procedures.
Construction of Marina Papagayo began in the summer of 2008 and is continuing at a rapid pace to meet the Dec. 15 opening date. The marina is being built with a ShoreMaster floating dock system. ShoreMaster has created dock systems for marinas throughout the world. The dock system at Marina Papagayo is designed to give boaters ease of access to their vessels by providing a constant gunwale height at all times. An extensive floating breakwater will maintain a smooth and calm environment in the marina basin, keeping the basin and vessels free from wind and wave activity.
Yacht slips at Marina Papagayo will have generous dimensions to accommodate today’s newer, larger, longer and wider vessels. The docks themselves will be wide enough to allow for golf carts and pedestrians to pass each other safely. Slips will be available to transient boaters or in a non-equity club structure.
In-Slip Amenities Will Include:
Other Planned Marina Amenities:
Construction of the marina village began in the fall of 2008. The remaining 171 slips will be built by 2011 or 2012.
