Pendennis recently announced the construction of a new steel framed shed measuring 52m (L) x 18m (W) x 19m (H). The building will further expand the facilities that the company can offer to yachts seeking undercover refit slots and will be perfect for a variety of work including full paint jobs, structural alterations, engineering and interior joinery programmes. New land has also been purchased adjacent to the Pendennis 6.5 acre site to expand capacity.

Mike Carr, Joint MD at Pendennis explains “We are so confident in our refit offering that expanding our facilities at this time of uncertainty within the industry doesn’t cause us concern at all. We have a workforce of 250 people and all of our major skills and project management is in house – keeping sub-contraction to an absolute minimal – giving clients security over the successful outcome of their project.”

He continued “This coupled with recent movements in international currency markets benefitting the pound, have made us particularly attractive to American and European clients. The sales team is busy on the road promoting our refit slots for this summer and the coming winter period and our refit enquiry level continues to be steady.”

In recent years Pendennis has made significant in roads into the refit sector of the superyacht market. With heavy investment in its infrastructure including a brand new state of the art refit complex, complete with two 75m dry docks and paint facilities, as well as a 400 tonnes travel hoist with 1,500sqm of supporting hard standing.

Pendennis expansion into the refit market hasn’t been at the cost of their established new build business, with three sailing yacht projects ranging from 30m – 50m currently on the books.
