Kha Shing shipyard, the builder of the Monte Fino range of luxury motor yachts, has provided some unexpected good news in the current economic downturn with the announcement that it is investing $20 million in two new facilities that will operate alongside its two existing sites.

Located at Kaohsiung City on the south west coast of Taiwan, Kha Shing has been building production and custom yachts for over thirty years for customers all over the world and, despite the prevailing conditions, continues to maintain a healthy order book, a state of affairs reinforced by the current remodelling programme taking place across the Monte Fino range.

Construction work is already well underway at the recently acquired sites, with completion due for later in 2009. Adding 15,000 square metres to the company’s already extensive facilities, the first new site will be used for superstructure fabrication while the second will be used for finishing. 75 extra jobs will be added to the 400 strong workforce.

“The new facilities will be a major milestone in our development as a leading builder of luxury motor yachts in Asia,” commented Howard Gung, General Manager at Kha Shing Enterprises. “The recent rollout of the restyled Monte Fino 76 coupled with the January 2009 launch of the first Monte Fino 122 has firmly established our position as builders of luxury superyachts, and these additional sites will expand our product capability by up to ten additional yachts a year while also enabling us to further improve our levels of customer service in delivering custom and semi‐custom Monte Fino motor yachts from 76 to 130 feet and beyond.”
