The Royal Huisman Hyperion off Palma de Mallorca

Hyperion was built by Royal Huisman for well known yachtsman Jim Clark. When he took delivery of the 90 metre Royal Huisman Athena in 2004 he sold Hyperion. The 47 metre yacht was designed by German Frers and Pieter Beeldsnijder, who was also responsible for her interior. According to her charter broker, Edmiston, Hyperion is dedicated to fast sailing and relaxation – in that order. Her ‘brain’ is a 500 billion byte computer linked to 59 kilometres of wiring, controlling 13,000 square feet of sail on a 59 metre carbon rig, exerting some 200 compressive tons at its base. When not under sail, the yacht is powered by a 1,100 hp MTU diesel engine driving a LIPS variable pitch propeller.
