SuperYacht of the week: Keep Cool, the new Sanlorenzo SL108
By Maarten Janssen
Keep Cool, the latest pearl in the Sanlorenzo fleet, is the first of the new Sanlorenzo SL108 model. In keeping with the Sanlorenzo tradition, the SL108 – with its 33 meters the largest in the fleet- represents the flag ship of the yard’s fibreglass series of motoryachts, built by the Ameglia Division. The rest of the fiberglass fleet consists of the SL62, SL72, SL82 and the SL100New.
Keep Cool is is based on the needs and preferences of her owner and, like every Sanlorenzo for over 50 years, is an haute couture product. The unique style and refined design puts the Sanlorenzo SL108 on the top end of international production yachts, where the italian shipyard is a synonym of absolute excellence, where refinement and attention to the smallest details are typical characteristics.
Even though there is no hard-top, shadow is still guaranteed by a bimini, set into the radar arch. The bimini opens to cover the dining area forward, and the lounge area aft. The bimini has a LED lighting system which provides a pleasing atmosphere when darkness sets in.
Aft on the flybridge, you will find a lounge area with four comfortable chaise-longue and three small tables with removable trays.
Towards the bow of the yacht, there is a teak covered Jacuzzi, and a large seating area, which doubles as a dining area with sofa’s and seats around an adjustable table, which one can move towards the sofas, and which can be opened to comfortably seat 10 people. Forward of the dining area, there is a well protected and large sunbathing area.
On the starboard side of the flybridge, there is cabinet with houses the LCD 32 pop-up television. Music and TV audio are provided on the fly bridge by a 6 –speaker system connected to the yacht’s entertainment system. The cabinet that houses the television, has an L-shape and is equipped with fridge, ice-maker, sink and two bar stools. Finally, the flybridge houses the yacht’s second navigational console, which is equipped with the most sophisticated on board instruments.
On the main deck, great attention was given to the lighting system which relies on a dimming system fitted under the furniture, to create various atmospheres, changing from a soft romantic mode, to very bright light.
When first stepping on board Keep Cool’s main deck and into a large yet intimate aft cockpit, her modern elegance can only begin to be appreciated. The main aft deck of the SL108 is the initial reception area for guests as they arrive onboard, styled with a comfortable sofa for four people, a table in natural teak which can seat up to 10 people. From here, and through an automatic sliding door, guests enter the main salon and dining area.
The main salon features a teak siam floor, with wenge inserts, and with bleached teak siam furniture. The main entertaining area features a white corner sofa by Minotti, which creates a pure and elegant atmosphere. Additionally, the area also features two design classics, the Barcelona chair, a 1929 design by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. Two specially comminsioned tables complement the lounge area.
Upon entering the main salon, there is a bar cabinet on the left which features a tempered crystal surface.
This superyacht’s main dining area is highlighted by a large dining table with a titanium top, and teak structure. The formal dining area seats 10.
From here, and through a port-side corridor, guests pass the dayhead, and reach the owner’s stateroom. The owner’s stateroom resembles a modern five-star beach-side hotel suite, and includes an en-suite bath and a large wardrope.
Guests are accommodated in the 3 guest cabins located on the lower deck. The lower deck is reached from two different sides: centrally for the guests going to the VIP cabin or to one of the twin cabins (both equipped with bathroom and shower) or port-side for the crew, with a direct access to the galley.
The crew quaters feature a large dinette and give access to the laundry (with dryer and ironing equipment). There are two bunkbed crewcabins, and a slightly larger captain’s cabin, all equipped with bathroom and shower.
The main tender is stored in the lazarette. The transom hatch opens to facilitate launching of the tender. The high performances of Keep Cool are guaranteed by 2 MTU 12V 4000M90 with 2775 HP (2040 kW) each , allowing for a maximum speed of 30 knots and a continuous cruising speed of 28 knots.
