Superyacht Scoop: Codecasa’s 62m Moneikos

Friday, 6 April 2007

Hull C.112 Moneikos rolled off the slipway on the 7th of June from Codecasa’s shipyard in Viareggio. It’s the second Codecasa yacht for her experienced Italian owner. His former 50m Moneikos (now Dakota) was launched in 2000 and based on Codecasa’s successful 50m series.

The hull design of the new 62m Moneikos is based on the design of Codecasa’s other 62m yacht, Apogee. Apart from the hull design and some engineering both yachts couldn't be more different. Apogee features a classic American style interior, while the minimalist interior of Moneikos is ultra modern.

The exterior of Moneikos was designed by the in-house team of Codecasa in cooperation with Franco & Anna Dellarole of Studio Dellarole. The exterior lines are dominated by the black lines around her superstructure. Her forward facing windows are all vertical, a first for Codecasa.

Another first for Codecasa is the 5th deck of Moneikos. This extra deck made it possible to move the owner’s suite forward on the upper deck, where the owner will enjoy 180 degree visibility over the bow. The bridge is located on the highest deck, ensuring excellent visibility.

If we take a closer look at the lay-out of this huge five deck motor yacht, it’s interesting to note the number of guest cabins; 1 owner’s suite, 4 double cabins and 3 twin cabins. No compromise was made on the size of the cabins however. At the lower deck we find two twin cabins and two double cabins (photo), all with writing desk, sofa and en-suite bathrooms with bath. The two double cabins even have walk in closets.

On the main deck you'll find the remaining double cabins with en-suite bathrooms and 1 twin cabin. On the top deck we enter the huge owner’s suite through the office. The owner’s stateroom has a splendid 180 degree view over the sea. Next to the owner’s office is the walk-in-closet which connects the owner’s suite with the bathroom.

On board there are two spacious salons, one on the main deck (photos) and the other on the upper deck. The dining area, which easily seats 16 guests, is located aft on the upper deck, surrounded by windows all around.

Guests can reach each of the five decks through an internal lift or by stairs (photo).

Although she lacks a traditional sundeck on top, a more than generous lounging area can be found aft on the top deck around the oversized pool.

Moneikos can sleep a crew of 16. The captain’s cabin is located behind the bridge and next to the bridge office. The lower decks houses the crew mess, forward of the guest cabins, and a further 7 twin cabins and the last cabin is found on the main deck in front off the guest cabins.

Aft on the lower deck is a spacious garage with two tenders. Forward of the garage we have the control room with the engine room which houses her twin Caterpillar 3516B diesel engines. Moneikos can reach a maximum speed of 17 knots and can sail over 6.000 nautical miles at a speed of 14 knots.
