Boasting an image that instantly feels highly contemporary, with exterior lines that seem to play with the boundaries of conventional design and a remarkably minimal look and feel, superyacht Bertona was the latest Canados 116 to be launched in March 2011. Her lines show a sharpness that gives her features an sportive edge and adds to her overall attitude which seems to aim for speed, blended with a sense style and comfort that is undoubtedly Italian. Both interiors and exteriors have a pleasantly minimal look and feel to them, where the attention to detail and intelligent application of colours, shapes and materials result in a design that feels exciting and relaxing at the same time.

Bertona's exteriors have been designed by Canados' own in-house Technical Department while all interiors are courtesy of Rome-based design studio Salvagni Architetti. Overall, she has a pleasant prestigious feel to her, making guests feel surrounded with elegance and luxury. This sense of style immediately becomes apparent upon boarding, with the aft deck consisting of nice lounging and dining area with modern chairs showing off a hint of curve, without any superfluous details in sight.

The main saloon offers an image of minimal class. Centered around two large, white sofas and a black coffee table, the design is stylized as modern, friendly and comfortable. Smooth, reflective black surfaces form a sharp contrast with the full, soft and crisp clean white sofa upholstery. Elegant shutters and a colour palette that stands out because of it's modesty are the remaining fundamentals for the main saloon's accomplished design. Bamboo floors, teak wall paneling, smooth off-white ceilings and a plush silk carpet subtly complete the design while several sculptural artworks placed in the room add the finishing personal touches.

A modern, toned-down elegance is also the key ingredient to Bertona's main dining room, with a smoothly polished ebony dining table surrounded by Mies Van Der Rohe cantilever chairs setting the tone. Three reflective metal beams, designed as though sliding down from the ceiling, form the dining room's central lighting scheme and another light grey silk carpet defines the dining area's boundaries while adding softness to the whole of the design. Modestly sized sculptural artworks again add some extra personality to the room. Like the main saloon, a lighting scheme consisting of frames of light surrounding ceilings and floors is unobtrusive and successfully integrated to complete the atmosphere.

From the main deck foyer, a central staircase leads downwards to the lower deck, where all guest cabins can be found. The Owner's suite, a VIP and two double cabins offer accommodation for a company of 8 guests. Each guest cabin has an en suite bathroom and overall, the same design scheme has been applied throughout. The latter results in a pleasantly coherent and consistent atmosphere throughout all interior guest areas. Bamboo flooring gives a playful touch, balancing the mysterious appearance of lacquered ebony surfaces as applied in doors and wall panelling. As with the main saloon and dining room areas, the atmosphere in all guest cabins is that of light class, modern and cozy. Extending this design into the bathroom, the main ingredients here form Turkish limestone and teak, applied in clear lines and with minimal details.

From the main deck, a luxurious sun deck can be reached. Here, an al fresco dining area is paired with a comfortable and sizeable setting of lounging sofas and sunbeds. All supplied with ample amounts of sun or, when necessary, covered in shade with the available bimini shades. For more privacy and perfect panorama views, additional sunbeds can be found on the fore main deck.

In short, Bertona is a great example of Italian style and a contemporary design. With her sportive exterior looks and minimal yet cozy atmosphere, she embodies some interesting and well balanced contrasts that often form the basis of true beauty.
