SuperYacht of the Week: First look onboard Baglietto's 53m Gitana

Saturday, 5 July 2008

Gitana is the latest masterpiece by Baglietto, measuring 53 metres in length with a displacement of 620 tonnes. Even at first sight, the exterior design clearly express the unmistakeable style of Baglietto, with harmoniously penned lines, forms and windows underscored by the white colour scheme.

Gitana is a fusion of design, technology and performance. With a unique hull design developed by the specialised in-house team at the La Spezia boatyard in Italy, Gitana comfortably exceeds 17 knots – a remarkable speed for a craft of this size – and boasts an impressive range of 4,500 miles.

Performance and personalisation are values that have always set Baglietto apart as an ambassador of Italian excellence on the seas of the world. Through its sheer size and beauty, Gitana embodies the essence of the values of a company with over a century of history.

Gitana is equipped with all the latest control, stabilisation (including an anti-roll at anchor system), monitoring and safety systems, with its greatest strength proudly displayed in the ultra-technological engine room. In here, in an area separate from the control room – where the plethora of control systems are housed – are the two Caterpillar 3516B main engines, providing the power to propel the craft to a top speed of 17 knots. The 90,000 litre fuel tanks afford an incredible transatlantic range of 4,500 miles at a speed of 12 knots.

Inside, Gitana is beautifully appointed with classic lines and prestigious materials crafted skilfully within the boatyard itself. The elegant design of the interior is defined by meticulous attention to detail, style and luxury.

The main saloon, divided into a dining area for twelve persons and a leisure-lounge area, boasts large windows that give the interior a remarkable airiness.

The full beam owner’s suite is located forward on the main deck, and includes an area that may be used as a studio, two dressing rooms and two bathrooms – one with shower and the other with jacuzzi.

The professional galley on main deck level gives access to the crew quarters, which can accommodate up to ten persons in double cabins, each with its own bathroom.

On the top deck is a large panoramic saloon with a corridor linking to the wheelhouse that also leads off to a pantry, a gym and the captain’s quarters. The bridge is bristling with the latest technology and features a separate radio equipment room.

The lower deck is dedicated to guests, with four cabins designed for maximised space usage. At the stern and bow are the two spacious VIP cabins, while two cabins with twin beds are situated laterally. The three decks are linked internally by a grand staircase – one of the defining elements of the interior layout and design of the yacht.

On the outdoor area of the top deck is a table that can seat twelve people. This area leads onto the exclusive, spacious and open sundeck with a beautiful aft bridge featuring fixed deckchairs. The chairs surround a large spa pool and an area with bar and a dumb waiter linking to the pantry and galley.

The sun deck offers some of the most beautiful views in the world, allowing one to admire the surroundings and feel admired in both the Northern and Southern hemispheres. This is a privilege offered by Gitana thanks to her incredible range, making it possible to circumnavigate the globe without even a single stop!
