Port Louis Grenada sponsors first Grenada Classic Yacht Regatta 2008

Port Louis Grenada is once again helping to bring another major sporting event to Grenada. On Thursday October 11, 2007, Port Louis announced its Silver Sponsorship of the Grenada Classic Yacht Regatta. The Regatta will be held from February 21 st 2008 through February 24th 2008.

Port Louis Chairman Peter de Savary described the race as a unique event. He noted that Grenadian sailing enthusiasts will be thrilled to see classic yachts sail in the beautiful waters off of Grenada into the lagoon. "I am sure that this event will bring back pleasant memories. I can imagine parents bringing their children out to see these wonderful vessels and reminiscing about the past. These classic yachts sailed our waters years ago and I know that most Grenadians have not seen these kinds of yachts for many years. We at Port Louis Grenada are therefore delighted to be a major sponsor of this event."

Mr. de Savary noted that his organization would continue to sponsor worthwhile events in Grenada. "We have already committed sponsorship to the Grenada Round the Island Easter Regatta 2007, the Port Louis Grenada Sailing Festival 2008, Grenada Billfish Tournament 2007 and the Grenada Cricket Classics 2007. These sponsorships not only demonstrate our commitment to the development of sports, but our commitment to promoting Grenada as an event destination."

Additional sponsors of the event include Bel Air Plantation as a Silver Sponsor, Shipwrights Ltd. and the Maritime School of the West Indies. Several other organizations are in the process of committing their sponsorship to the Grenada Classic Regatta.
