Fincantieri Yachts moves 134m hull 6154 into its new high-tech shed
After having signed its first contract for the construction of Hull # 6154, a seven- deck motor yacht of over 130 metres in length in May 2006, Fincantieri Yachts, the dedicated yacht division of Fincantieri, based in Muggiano, just announced the completion of a new high-tech, fully outfitted shed, specially designed and built to optimize the painting and interior outfitting activities, and the successful movement of Hull # 6154 into this new shed, which is now the technically most advanced at the yard.
The main characteristics of the new yacht shed are:
• Dimensions: overall length 170 metre ; net width 30 metre ; net height below cranes 30 metre. These dimensions permit the construction under cover of a 160 m LOA Yacht. A further lengthening by abt. 50 metre towards the sea is under study.
• Two overhead travelling cranes, each with 60 T lifting capacity
• Motorized telescopic opening roofs
• Computerized environmental system which allows the control of air humidity and temperature at the optimal level
• Smoke and dust control extraction plant
• Fully cleanable internal metallic walls with integrated internal washing system, to maximise ambience sterility and to eliminate fairing dust.
• Waste water filtering and disposal
Since inception, Fincantieri Yachts, supported by the best Fincantieri experts and by a qualified group of prominent international yacht building consultants, has thoroughly explored all the key elements of design and production of large yachts with the aim to provide yacht owners with top market quality beginning with the delivery of its first yacht. A fully dedicated organization and the necessary investments, including the new outfitting shed, have been put in place to ensure this clear company target starting from Hull # 6154, which is scheduled to be launched at the beginning of 2010.
“Hull # 6154” has been designed and engineered by the Fincantieri Yachts team to full owner’s satisfaction, on the basis of a revolutionary, outstanding new design by Espen Oeino, and is under construction since December 2006, when the first steel was cut. After the keel laying ceremony in March 2007, construction has proceeded smoothly thanks to the full commitment of the Muggiano Yard and also thanks to the positive, open and productive working relationship with the owner’s team. The yacht’s platform has been completed on schedule and is now ready for the second key phase of the production plan consisting mainly of the painting and interior outfitting activities.
On 11th June 2008 the yacht has been moved from the assembling Workshop, where the yacht platform was erected, into the new painting and outfitting shed. The operation has been successfully carried out with the use of a variable asset floating barge and hydraulic heavy-lift trucks to ensure the safest possible platform movement.
Hull # 6154, when completed, will be one of the most technically advanced and most elegant mega-yachts built to date. Key features will include, among others, two helicopter landing platforms (one with a hangar), storage for a large submarine, a huge internal seawater pool, that can also be used for 11metre tender docking, and 2.700 square metres of luxury interior area designed by Pascale Reymond of Reymond Langton Design, one of the most trend-setting yacht-interior designers.
Commenting on this successful building operation, Mr. Giuseppe Bono, Fincantieri Chief Executive Officer, said: “We will be able to define the full success of our entrance into the mega-yacht market only after the delivery of our first yacht. Today an important step in this direction has been taken successfully thanks to our company’s full commitment to exploit our cutting edge design, technical and building expertise, and our policy to select and manage the best suppliers in this industry and making the necessary investments to achieve excellence. The successful development of this project represents our first but huge step on the path to leadership, which is our target also in this market.”
Mr. Giovanni Romano, Head of Fincantieri Yachts, added: “Fincantieri Yachts is enjoying an incomparable experience thanks to the development of Hull # 6154, which will be fruitfully transferred into the design and construction of our next contracts, starting with our second yacht, a 90 metre. With Hull # 6154 we reached this “half-way point” on schedule, even if we know that the most challenging part of the yacht’s construction is still to come. Fincantieri is dedicating growing resources to the yacht business, not only on the managerial and technical side, but also in terms of investments , and this fantastic new shed is a proof of that. On top of that, we, as a team, are putting forward our best efforts to ensure day after day to the Owner and his team a smooth, reliable and rewarding building experience. This is what we want to build as our key point of difference in this market”
