Marina Cap Cana announces 2009 summer sport fishing season

Excellent billfishing waters are a mere three miles from the entrance channel of Marina Cap Cana on the southeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. White marlin have already begun biting with recent catches reported less than two miles from the main entrance channel and will continue to swim in the azure Caribbean Sea through June – just in time for blue marlin season.

Fishing for prized blue marlin is superb from June until the end of July. Sailfish become abundant in August - and grouper, Dorado and snapper are caught by sport fishermen year-round.

During late spring and summer, the fishing is great and the weather is perfect at Marina Cap Cana, which recently announced new Summer Sport Fishing wet slip rental rates for May 1 through Aug. 14 – prime time for big-game sport fishing in the region. Marina Cap Cana is strategically located on the Mona Passage, the body of water between Hispaniola and Puerto Rico where the Atlantic Ocean meets the Caribbean Sea, creating ideal big-game fishing grounds. The marina is 750 nautical miles southeast of Florida. Cap Cana is easily accessible by major airlines traveling to Punta Cana International Airport. The resort is a 2.5-hour flight from Miami, a four-hour flight from New York, a six-plus hour flight from Chicago and an eight-hour flight from Los Angeles.

In an effort to attract national and international anglers, Marina Cap Cana has lowered its dockage rates for the coming billfish season.

We are anticipating another terrific season of white marlin and blue marlin fishing,” said Capt. Andrew G. New, General Manager of Marina Cap Cana at the luxury Cap Cana resort. “Our location is perfect for speedy access to the world-class fishing grounds in the Punta Cana zone. Our marina’s facilities and amenities rival those of other major international fishing destinations, complemented by a diverse range of off-day activities and five-star dining and leisure options.”

Marina Cap Cana, a full-service yachting and sport-fishing marina, is destined to become the centerpiece of the multi-million-dollar Cap Cana resort. The resort will be under construction over the next 15 to 20 years on a 30,000-acre site. Five signature golf courses, four, five-star hotels, 8,500 residences, and a marina with more than 1,000 slips, the largest marina within a 250-mile radius in the Caribbean Sea, are planned. There are 89 slips in Phase I of the marina.

Capt. New was appointed general manager of Marina Cap Cana by Brandy Marine International, L.L.C. of Sarasota, FL. Brandy Marine, with 32 years in the marina management, consulting and design business, took over management of Marina Cap Cana in 2008. The marina is a key property in Brandy Marine’s expanded management portfolio of high-end international resort marinas. Brandy Marine also manages the 180-slip Marina Papagayo at the five-star Peninsula Papagayo resort in Costa Rica.
