Fincantieri has signed a contract for the construction of a seven-deck motor yacht of 140 metres in length. The superyacht will be identified as “Hull # 6218”. This is the first order for a yacht longer than 80 metres signed since the beginning of the financial crisis in October 2008. German superyacht builder Lürssen Yachts has launched the completed hull of motor yacht Firebird from their facility in Rendsburg. The 86 metre superyacht will be moved to one of the outfitting sheds and is due for delivery in 2011. Saturday 21 November saw the load-in of yet another superyacht at the Oceanco shipyard in Alblasserdam, the Netherlands. The Y707 is one of four 85+m yachts that are currently under construction by Oceanco. The hull of the C.2156 – 55m Picchiotti-Vitruvius motor-yacht was successfully transported by sea from the Perini Navi shipyard in Yildiz, Istanbul to the Beconcini Shipyard in La Spezia, Italy. Benetti recently unveiled plans for a full new range of superyachts, the Benetti Class. The new Benetti Class will consist of seven models ranging from 90ft to up to 164ft. The first model from the new Class range will be the Tradition 105, which replaces the 100ft Tradition, and will be launched in the Summer of 2010. Read More

Earlier this week the Bremerhaven based Lloydwerft launched the 115 metre explorer Luna. Luna is commissioned by a well known yachtsman, who owns several other large yachts, and apparently she is jointly built by the Lloydwerft and Stahlbau Nord. The Genoa International Boat Show saw the debut of the largest superyacht built by Permare to date, the Amer 116’. The lay-out of this luxury yacht is especially noteworthy with three large staterooms, instead of the usual five staterooms found on yachts of this size. Last week I was invited by Hakvoort Shipyard in Holland, for a tour of the yard and of the projects currently under construction, the YN245 and the YN243. This year, the shipyard is celebrating ninety years of continuous ownership by the same family. Purchased by the Hakvoort family in 1919, the original yard had been building vessels since the 1700s. This morning the Blohm & Voss shipyard in Hamburg launched the superyacht Eclipse. The luxury yacht is designed by Terence Disdale and will have a gross tonnage of approximately 13,000 and reportedly measures 170 metres, which would make her the world’s largest yacht. Sunreef Yachts is pleased to announce that most of the aluminium work on the Sunreef 114 has been completed.
