Mouldcam has joined forces with McDell Marine

Mouldcam of Australia has joined forces with McDell Marine of Auckland, New Zealand to form MouldCam New Zealand. This joint venture will bring leading technology in composite mould building right into the back yard of the World’s Leading Boat Builders. Toby Whitfield, Managing Director of MouldCam Australia says; “We have worked with McDell Marine over a number of projects and have seen first hand their application and implementation of latest thinking and process technology in their operations. This represents a perfect match with our own philosophy at MouldCam”.

Demand has been steadily growing for technology to keep up with design and manufacturing methods to become faster, more efficient and absolutely accurate. MouldCam NZ will have in operation by December 2007 a five-axis CNC router that will be 24m long x 4m wide by 3m high, making it the largest of its kind in the Asia Pacific Region. With the long established and respected reputation in the marine industry, McDell Marine were keen to take the opportunity to move technology into the forefront of the global market by establishing a partnership with MouldCam Australia and setting up a leading edge operation in New Zealand.

MouldCam Australia has been in operation for three years and has worked on such prestigious projects as Ellen MacArthurs record-breaking B&O, Mike Slade’s latest, Leopard 111, Wild Oats and Alfa Romeo. With design innovations such as canting keels, wind foils and carbon fibre structural components becoming the norm, better forms with higher strengths are a must.

Jaime Marina, MouldCam technical director will be heading up the NZ operation. Mouldcam NZ, will be set up to do the high end work, be it high quality tailored production work or critically accurate top end composite building. New Zealand is at the leading edge of the global marine industry and therefore the synergies are perfect for establishing MouldCam operations here.

MouldCam NZ will offer the full range of products including CNC cut patterns and moulds, direct CNC cut limited use female moulds as well as a full range of products for use with high temperature curing cycles.
