Palma International Boat Show rescheduled for 2012
The 29th Palma International Boat Show , which was planned for April 28th to May 2nd this year has been rescheduled until April 2013 following a decision by a new organising committee appointed by the government in The Balearics. The Palma show has always been run by a government department, which is in place to manage several trade and tourism fairs on the island each year.
The recently elected local government in Palma had taken the approach of directly involving senior figures from the significant local yachting sector. The guiding principles behind the organising committee's remit are to ensure the Palma Boat Show can be economically viable, providing a value platform for exhibitors, and presenting a vibrant informative event for visitors.
The majority opinion of the committee, which included presidents of the nautical business associations, yacht brokers and marina management, was that all of these objectives could be most adequately met by utilising their joint resources, and having the time to plan for a really successful Palma Boat Show in 2013.
Far from being seen in a catastrophic light, the committee, which was set up last September to steer and organize the show, sees this as a chance to reassess its direction.
The new format aims to have superyachts as well as smaller yachts exhibited, with chances for young people to learn about the industry. Plus there will be interactive or educational seminars, cheaper tickets, and full accreditation for press and professionals from the yachting world.
The organisers are also planning to engage a Spanish community which is skeptical about superyachts, into understanding the revenue generating and job creating aspects of the large commercial yacht market. Especially as Palma de Mallorca has one of the finest and best established infrastructures in the world for berthing, maintaining and repairing superyachts, and catering to the needs of their owners, charterers and crew.
