The Antibes Raft Race is back
It is ten years since the Antibes Raft Racers took to the waters of Port Vauban, creating Mayday mayhem in late April on their home-made whacky crafts. Yes, it has taken ten years to recover from the last one, but the Raft Race Team have lashed it together one more time to bring pre-season cheer to the Mediterranean’s largest pleasure port. The fun starts at noon Saturday 21st April 2012 at the International Yacht Club d’Antibes, Port Vauban.
The format is the same as always with the emphasis on fun, safety and charity. Teams, with imaginatively named & outlandish rafts, made up of yacht crew, yacht industry professionals, locally based businesses, first time friends, yes you guessed it… everyone is welcome to enter! Each team however must comprise of at least one female crew member.
All rafts, no larger that 12m2, must be non-motorised and constructed by crew members. Whilst sabotage is a no-no, harmless ammunition (no eggs) is permitted. Full Rules and entry form. Lifejackets and a whistle are a must as are fenders and an anchor.
An entry fee of €100 per raft is payable, with all profits going to our three selected charities: The Antibes Lifeboat; Encompass and Les Restaurants du Coeur.
The party continues in the evening at Rio’s Banana Café on Port Camille-Rayon in Golfe-Juan. 100 years ago - on 14/15th April 1912 the Titanic tragically sunk. To commemorate this event our 2012 evening 'bash' will be a 'Titanic' Fancy Dress Party with the prize-giving, bar, food, live bands lead by leg-ends The Yachtbreakers and a disco with pirate DJ Mark Dezzani.
