Andy Roy has been appointed the new Chairman of the Isle of Man Yacht Forum. Commenting on the appointment the outgoing Chairman, Rob Tobin said: “Andy has served Forum well for several years, mostly unsung in the background, especially in relation to the thorny subjects of tax and VAT. He has performed sterling work on behalf of the Isle of Man as a whole and has never sought personal gain from this work. I am sure that in his new, higher profile role, as Chairman he will he will drive the yachting industry on the Isle of Man on to greater things. I am pleased to remain on the Forum’s committee with Andy.”

Andy is a principal of Baker Tilly Isle of Man and director of Bennett Roy Maritime. He has been involved in the yachting industry for over thirty years and brings considerable experience to his new role as Chairman of the Forum. He has written and spoken extensively at seminars on the areas of concern to the yachting industry, especially VAT, and is one of the authors of the Superyacht Operations Diploma training course. A Chartered Accountant by profession he has been a sailor all his life and is past Commodore of the Isle of Man Yacht Club, a member of Royal Ocean Racing Club and is looking forward to racing his newly acquired classic Swan 46.

On taking up his new role Andy said: “I am looking forward to the challenge that this position will bring. All changes are meant to bring a new view of things so let's hope we can justify the faith of the members and take the Forum forward. These are times of many challenges to the yachting industry, it is an easy target for those who are looking for one so we must concentrate on proving our worth not just the Isle of Man but to Great Britain as a whole and to our clients in particular, who want and deserve the best - just like their yachts".

"I must pay tribute to Rob Tobin who has been responsible for bringing the Forum so far. In many ways the Forum was Rob’s concept and he has steered it through both calm and choppy waters with consummate skill. I'm very pleased he has agreed to stay on the committee so we won't lose his in depth knowledge of the industry.”
