By Merijn de Waard Alice Huisman today informed SuperYachtTimes.com that two orders have been cancelled: “Like other international companies, Royal Huisman has also felt the effects of the current recession by way of the cancellation of two of our new build projects, Gitana and the Windjammer Project,” says Alice Huisman. Whilst it’s a great disappointment for the shipyard, they are still fortunate to have a strong order book, with 4 yachts in various stages of construction and two yachts under refit. The 58m/190’ Ethereal having left the yard some months ago is now followed by the new J class yacht Hanuman which has just completed very successful sea trials and according to Alice, she is looking extremely impressive. Twizzle at 58m / 190’ continues to take dramatic shape whilst the 49m/160’ Spirit of Tradition Ketch is well advanced in her design engineering phase. The 36.58m/ 120’ Classic Cutter Rigged Sloop follows whilst cosmetic facelifts on Juliet and William Tai (ex Surama) reward Huisman, as they demonstrate their endurance to the very real ‘test of time’. “Whilst we are naturally sympathetic toward the difficult personal and business decisions our clients have had to face, a positive aspect of these changes to our order book is that we are pleased to be able to re-engage with owners, naval architects and project managers about new project opportunities with deliveries in 2012,” concludes Alice.
