SuperYacht Special: ICON Yachts and Newman Stacey Design unveil 72m superyacht
Conceived originally for a client with an exacting brief, Newman Stacey Design are developing a 72m cruising superyacht which utilises ICON Yachts optimised hull platform. In essence, the brief from the client was to design a family yacht. There was a great emphasis on well being, and it had to be a flexible design which would be appealing to charter.
The flexibility of ICON Yachts technical and operational platform allows almost any design and leaves enough freedom for the client to create their ultimate dream.
Externally, it was ICON’s desire to take the platform and create a timeless design which was dynamic in form and elegant in its simplicity with crisp contemporary detailing. In order to achieve this they have emphasised the horizontal lines, which has the effect of visually lengthening the vessel. The louvre fins that extend from the superstructure aft are not only an important addition to the architectural language of the vessel but also provide a unique living space. They create an intermediary shaded space which has the benefit of combining the protection of an interior with the freedom of exterior living, thus blurring the threshold between the two.
Internally, the yacht has been designed to make the most of the fabulous views from aboard. Large expanses of glass afford panoramic views from all guest areas culminating in a generous Owner’s suite forward on the Upper Deck. Locating the Owner here provides the opportunity for exclusive privacy on the top two decks should this be required. The interior has been developed to accommodate maximum flexibility in all guest areas. For example, by day the beach-club located on the Lower Deck aft is an informal beach lounge with a large folding transom door, enabling bathing right at the water’s edge. In the evening it comfortably accommodates the children as a safe, internal playroom and with the aid of sliding screens, if required, this space can also be reconfigured into two additional child or staff cabins.
The 5 person elevator, spanning all 5 decks, allows both elderly and / or disabled guests to enjoy all amenities of the yacht. The internal space planning has created ample room for wheelchairs to be used.
From Lower to Bridge Deck, an incredible spa spans three decks. Thoughtfully arranged to enable easy access between all the spaces this unique spa experience houses every facility imaginable to encourage a healthy, relaxing and playful lifestyle aboard. The steam room, sauna, panoramic gymnasium and large aft open deck space for mat exercise, meditation or yoga are located adjacent to the cold dip, whilst the day beds, juice bar and treatment room are located adjacent to the recuperating massage of the Jacuzzi. There is even a dedicated pottery room, complete with wheel and kiln; an alternative way to while away an afternoon.
The exercise pool located on Bridge Deck is another key component to this well being experience. In the long portion aft, continuous flow enables swimming. The organic shape forward provides a shallow area to lounge or sit and relax in the sun or shade.
When construction will start of this magnificent, well balanced yacht, charter contracts can be booked within 30 months after the first steel plates are in welded in place. The modular build philosophy, combined with a proven platform technology allows such short built time.
