DescriptionTempest was launched in 1974, a near sister to Jim Kilroy’s Kialoa III. She was 1st to Bermuda in 1976 and held Vineyard Race record for 20 years. With the second owner she won her class in Transpac. In 1999, Tempest sailed to Holland with her present owner, who brought her to Holland Jachtbouw for a complete refit. The interior was redesigned by Hoek Design Naval Architects B.V. of Edam, Holland. She was gutted and put on a barge to the metal fabrication yard of Bloemsma where all metal work was replaced as needed. She was sandblasted and painted and returned to Holland Jachtbouw where she was completely rebuilt. All new plumbing, electric, hydraulics, new teak decks, windows, engine, and generator. She has a beautiful teak interior, air conditioner with reverse cycle. A Carbon rig was installed with a complete racing and cruising wardrobe. Lewmar hydraulic winches have replaced coffee grinders. In 2000 Tempest was relaunched as a new 1974/2000 yacht. She has the performance of the old Tempest with all the beauty and comforts of a new modern performance cruiser. Photos by Hoek Brokerage.
