As I am writing this, I am lying on the sundeck of a beautiful superyacht, whilst cruising in the warm waters of the Caribbean. I couldn't wish for a better setting to reflect on the last 12 months!
On SuperYachtTimes.com, we aim to bring you the biggest and latest news first. In the six years that we have been online, we have created a huge network of local correspondents, who regularly tip us off when a new yacht might launch, or when something exciting is about to happen. And I make sure we are there, and that we are the first to report about it.
In 2012 we were the first to bring you some of the biggest superyacht news ever. A few personal highlights were attending the technical launch of Azzam, the world's largest yacht in Germany, the launch of Venus, the yacht Feadship created for Steve Jobs, and being a guest on an amazing charter in Greece. I visited shipyards all over the world, as well as all the major superyacht shows, and my team is in regular contact with the owners of some of the world's most fascinating superyachts.
2012 Also meant a change of direction for SYT. We stopped publishing the seemingly endless stream of price reductions, and have more recently stopped publishing articles about yachts that come onto the brokerage market, as well as countless promotional press releases about products, awards and companies.
Instead, in 2013 we'll be bringing you even more interesting background stories on yachts, their owners, and some of the most fascinating cruising grounds. And with 159 superyachts scheduled to launch in 2013, we can look forward to a highly interesting year on SYT!
I realize that in an online era, nothing stays exclusive for very long, and they say that being copied is the sincerest form of flattery. In that case, I couldn't be happier! That said, keeping our leading position, means that in 2013 my team and I will be attending even more launches, visit more designers and shipyards, and travel to faraway places in search of the latest news.
Compared to some of the traditional superyacht media, we have only a small team. Yet we have superyachts flowing through our veins. It’s the first thing we wake up with and the last thing on our minds when we go to sleep. This is the passion we try to translate onto our pages every day, and I look forward to entertaining even more readers in 2013!
For now, Happy Holidays, and I hope to see you back in the new year!
