For a while now, superyacht Azzam, the world's largest superyacht in terms of length, was also considered to be the largest yacht in terms of volume. With the publication of her actual Gross Tonnage, we can now reveal that she is in fact not the largest superyacht in the world. At least not in terms of tonnage.
Instead of the 18,000 tons which she was believed to be, Azzam comes in at 13.136 tons. This means the number one position in terms of volume, is still reserved for another Lürssen superyacht, Al Said, at 15.850 tons.
Last week, a new Lürssen giant appeared on the scene, as a 150m+ yacht became visible for one day, when her German builder moved her into another shed. If this new yacht beats either Azzam or Al Said in terms of tonnage remains to be seen. The yacht has been covered up again, and we will probably not see her for another 12 months or so.
Meanwhile, Azzam is still docked in Tarragona, Spain, where she has been for some months now.
