Cristiano Gatto interiors on board the 50m Akoya

Following the news we published yesterday regarding the sale of the 50 metre Heesen built superyacht Akoya, Cristiano Gatto has revealed more information about the interiors on board the vessel. This is the third project the Italian designer has developed with the Dutch shipyard, the other two being the 50 metre Crazy Me as well as a 45 metre yacht currently under construction.

“The interior design's brief was for a beautiful state of the art environment. The yacht ambience was to be modern but not sparse, a refreshing cocoon where to spend enjoyable holidays. The brief, in a few words, was to design a yacht my own way!” Gatto says. “I am very glad to work with Heesen. The good co-ordination between our team and the yard's and a perfect planning will grant the success of this project,” he adds.

Meant for extended cruising period, the interior of this 50 metre was designed to be contemporary with a gentle Art Deco flavour. Space has been optimised throughout the interior areas, with alfresco living in mind, too. The outside spaces are expansive, with four distinct exterior areas available for relaxing, sunbathing, dining, enjoying navigation on main, upper and sun deck.

Cristiano Gatto and his team chose a well-defined palette of materials and colours and designed linear shapes with rounded edges so each item looks extremely modern still maintain a warmth and softness. Rosso Bulgaro saddle leather with thick stitching covers cupboards and decorative panels while stainless steel details and frames add a shine to custom designed furniture. Throughout the yacht's interiors white lacquered wood and leather are elegantly coupled to natural teak that has been honed and oiled.

In both the main and upper saloon sofas and armchairs by Poltrona Frau and Cassina add an unmistakable Italian design touch to the overall atmosphere. Six guest cabins, included the Owner’s on the main deck, feature the overall scheme boasting geometric patterns, teak and leather detailing.

“The philosophy behind this project is that beauty makes you feel better, is a source of good thinking and positive attitude. I do prefer to create a one-of-a-kind product stemming from a close collaboration between all parties involved. Giving life to a made-to-measure project is what makes the difference between mass-production and art.”
