Crystal and Cashmere come together in merge

The finest tableware and linen suppliers to the superyachting world – who have complemented each other on projects for two decades, discreetly supplying over 280 luxury yachts – are formally merging and appointing a Group Managing Director.

The two companies have built up a portfolio of knowledge and supplier contacts that is unrivalled in the industry. Their turnover of certain top brands is the highest in the UK – more than Harrods and some of the luxury brands’ own shops! As a result of their yachting work, satisfied clients have commissioned them to fit out private jets and homes too, enjoying impartial expert advice.

Kevin Glancy Ltd specialises in crystal, silver and porcelain. Jonathan Fawcett Ltd is the authority in linens, towels and accessories. Fawcett’s operations are relocating from The Old Bakery in Wales to join Glancy at Glancy Fawcett Ltd’s enlarged 700 square-metre premises and showrooms in Manchester – at The Old Engine Works (the former workshop of Gardner whose marine diesels are renowned for their quality – so it has good feng shui).

The lists of brands, from Baccarat to Bernardaud and Frette to Yves Delorme on their web sites, from which possibly 30 companies are briefed in any one project, is only a part of the story. The relationships with the key people at each company are what counts when clients need something fast – typically at the start of a charter season, to replace a breakage, or the weeks before a new launch.

Manufacturers respect that Glancy and Fawcett’s organizations have buying power and the fact that the majority of their clients recommend them to other yacht owners. They also know that they have competitor manufacturers, in their extensive database, eager to win the order should they not provide a top service.

Already sharing prime space at the Monaco Yacht Show for over 15 years – and travelling together, visiting homes and yachts on hundreds of projects – the merger offers clients the benefit of a single point of contact to ensure all items seamlessly tie in with the design theme or logo. Top yacht designers and owners’ project managers regularly specify Glancy & Fawcett to supply all accessories.

Quality control – including inspection and repacking of all items at The Old Engine Works, in boxes clearly marked with the exact position on the boat for their own men to deliver to – and value-for-money are two benefits. But perhaps the main reason 280 yacht owners, designers and stewardesses have used Glancy and Fawcett is their straight-talking, no-nonsense approach and sheer depth of knowledge. These values run throughout the 20-strong team at Glancy Fawcett Ltd, headed by Managing Director Rob Bieniasz. Kevin Glancy and Jonathan Fawcett are directors of Glancy Fawcett Ltd, continuing to lead sales.
