Great Nautilus: new 50-metre super-schooner by Sultan Marine

A new 50-metre superyacht, due for launch mid-2009, is revealed for the first time. Great Nautilus, an iconic super-schooner, has been designed and superbly styled by the renowned international designer, Evan K. Marshall. The concept for the striking schooner was created by Sultan Marine Superyachts and she is under construction at one of Sultan Marine’s build facilities at Bodrum.

Her timeless exterior styling blends the grace of a classic sailing yacht with the presence, luxury and authority of a motor yacht. Due to her hull shape, she features an interior layout comparable to a considerably larger yacht.

Evan Marshall is excited by the project: “In a world of yachting populated more and more by power boats, Great Nautilus provides a welcome relief for lovers of the sea who want to hear the wind in the sails and water slapping against a hull, though, of course, her powerful twin engines are always on hand.”

“One of the most critical questions in large yacht design is ‘Can we achieve the quality of finish demanded by the international superyacht market?’ Having seen first-hand everything from the hull construction to the lavish wood and marble finishes available at Sultan Marine’s Bodrum facility, I can say confidently, ‘Yes we can!’”

The main deck master stateroom is more than 35sqm, featuring an owner’s study, his and hers bathrooms and walk-in wardrobes. Below there are three large VIP king staterooms and two large twin guest staterooms, giving a total capacity of 12 guests, who will be looked after by a crew of up to ten.

The main salon and dining room have floor-to-ceiling windows and there is a full beam upper deck sky lounge and bar, a sundeck, spa pool and flybridge. The lavish interior design notes include the use of cherry, burl, onyx and marble mosaics.

On-board systems are the most technically-advanced available. Her UK Halsey sail plan provides an area of more than 900 sqm and under sail she will achieve more than 12 knots with minimal heel.

“Our vision for Great Nautilus was to create a truly unique superyacht”, says Dr. David Price Williams, chairman of Sultan Marine Superyachts. “The styling and design have exceeded all expectations and we are delighted to have had the opportunity to work so closely with Evan Marshall, who has shared our vision.”
