MCM grows as owners seek efficiecy

Having successfully launched six new Superyachts in 2010, acting on behalf of the owners, MCM reports that its Yacht Management Division is expanding as more owners look for efficiency. MCM now manages 20+ yachts, both power and sail.

As demand has increased and the portfolio expanded, MCM has recruited new staff, the newest member of the team being Mike Drake, an English registered architect with 10 years experience aboard yachts, from deckhand to captain, including transatlantic, charter and fleet operations management in the Caribbean, New England, Venezuela, Mediterranean and further afield. Having moved ashore to work with architects in Newport and West Palm Beach, Mike Drake is now based back in Newport and says: “I am very pleased to be returning to the yachting world; and both delighted and proud to be working for MCM with old friends.” Jillian Fonseca has also joined the management team from an administrative position within MCM.

MCM does not limit its management services to yachts whose construction was overseen by MCM. The new 46-metre Pendennis / Ron Holland aluminium ketch Christopher is one example of an owner who has come to MCM for yacht management upon delivery.

Christopher will be taking part in the St Barts Bucket (24-27 March 2011) along with four other MCM yachts: Kokomo, Marie, Lady B and Paraiso. MCM’s partners Peter Wilson (on Kokomo) and Nigel Ingram (on Marie) will both be there looking after their owners’ interests. Andy McNab (on Lady B) and Mike Drake (on Paraiso) representing the Management Division will also be in St Barth’s.

Peter Wilson gave a talk on successful collaboration a construction project at the recent Palm Beach Superyacht Design Symposium in which he explained MCM’s successful approach is “more about building a team of dedicated professionals – and binding them together in a common goal”. This approach should prove useful in the regatta series too. As he summed up: “It’s supposed to be fun. No owner needs a yacht, they’ve just decided they want one.”

MCM has managed the construction of over 65 large yachts and presently manages 20+ yachts cruising around the globe.
