The Research Vessel (RV) Pegaso just made her debut in Monaco and gave the world a glimpse into her Global Mission for Marine Conservation. Her oceanographic capabilities are impressive: 5-person Diver Lockout submarine, Ice Class notation, fully commercial helipad, 10,000 nautical miles at 12 knots, Dynamic Positioning, wet/dry laboratory, and separate scientist quarters.
The fourth yacht built for her experienced Owner, RV Pegaso is set to begin her marine science and exploration activities in the Mediterranean this summer and then head to the Pacific, via the Caribbean, in 2013. The vessel has partnered with Ocean Preservation Alliance (OPA) to assist in her unique vision of supporting the important work of restoring and preserving our oceans. During expeditions, RV Pegaso plans to study and explore protected marine reserves normally off limits to regular yachts. Expeditions on RV Pegaso are perfectly suited for special individuals that are looking for added adventure and purpose above a standard yacht holiday. Edmiston was just recently appointed as the exclusive central agent for this exceptional ship.
While she is a Lloyd’s Classed Research Vessel her looks and design, both interior and exterior, are as refined and luxurious as one might expect of a yacht of this stature. This is one of the aspects that make her one of the most significant new launches, as well as the latest addition to the world's Top 100.
All this rounds up to one delightful conclusion: it open's up possibilities for exploration of the world's oceans in comfort, combining purposeful expeditions with refined luxury. Guests will be able to enjoy the finer pleasures of a yachting holiday while simultaneously fostering the health of the ocean.
Andy Moore of Moore Yacht Design carried out the initial phase of exterior design on the original vessel whilst working at H2 Yacht Design and was subsequently asked by Pegaso Marine to finish off the original design after leaving H2 and setting up his own studio.
RV Pegaso offers an impressive 880m2 of accommodation, divided into four decks. Due to her particular future endeavours as an RV, her layout is slightly different from a more regular superyacht of comparable size. This is mainly the result of internal submarine bay, science laboratory, wet lab, and documentary production areas. Apart from the owner's quarters, which span an entire “penthouse” private deck with fore and aft terraces, offices and dramatic 360 degrees panoramic views, her five guest staterooms (one VIP Suite, four doubles/twin suite) can be found on the main deck, fore of the deck's central lobby.
This lobby is situated around the central spiraling staircase which connects all decks. The owner's deck can also be reached by use of an elevator, leading from the sun/helicopter deck below. The aft portion of the main deck has been reserved as submarine bay. With RV Pegaso's lower deck being mainly reserved for crew cabins, laundry room, galley, and engine and machinery control rooms, interior guest living areas and accommodations are situated on the main and upper decks.
The aft section of the bridge deck houses her large interior lounge and dining rooms, with additional casual seating and bar areas. The former also functions as a fully equipped cinema. Mark Berryman’s interior design feels both extravagantly luxurious and soothingly calm.
The main sitting area area, a large U-shaped setup of light modern sofas around a set of large contemporary minimal table pieces, is inviting and intimate. The flooring is an absolute eyecatcher, consisting of wide strips of chocolate-coloured leather braided together to form an intricately patterned yet modern carpeting. This space was designed for a large company and is large without losing a sense of warmth. The colour palette is based on soothing dark browns of leather and light beige-brown tints of the woods and natural stone used for floors, wall paneling, ceilings and cabinets. A small game table can also be found here. With an intricate yet natural lighting scheme, the whole room is bound together into an atmosphere of contemporary hospitality. The saloon's main dining table is a friendly setting of a round central table with plush, modern dining chairs dividing this space from the lounging area by a set of low cabinets, creating a separate room yet leaving the luxurious sense of space intact.
The dining setting being situated starboard, leaves the port side for a second, smaller sitting area with a small bar. With the added artworks, both paining and sculptural, the character of the saloon feels like very well balanced but also pleasantly eclectic, like a collection of materials, furnishing and collectibles that have been gathered throughout the world yet blend remarkably well together with regards to shape and colour. Varying from intricately detailed, lifelike sculptures of animals to colourful, abstract paintings and tribal tapestries, art onboard RV Pegaso is as diverse and rich as will be her future expeditions. On the aft deck, a large al fresco dining area can be found, including a buffet, casual lounging arrangement and an additional bar.
RV Pegaso's main deck guest cabins are all situated adjacent to one long corridor leading forward from the central lobby. This space is simple, modern and elegant with visual lines enhanced by woodworks in the walls, floors and ceilings. Here too, a collection of intriguing artwork can be found, silently welcoming guests on their way to their stateroom.
All these staterooms have been fitted with luxurious en-suites and are designed in the familiarly welcoming style also found in the upper deck saloon. Being located on the main deck, views from all cabins are simply outstanding. Combining wood, bamboo and natural stone, all in a balanced warm colour palette, in a design that is minimal with ample amounts of detailing, texture and smart design elements, undoubtedly leaves guests with a sense of soothing comfort yet feeling invited to explore. This is key to RV Pegaso's design scheme and, inevitably, to her goal as a vessel: to unobtrusively and comfortably explore. Staterooms and en suite bathrooms are light, spacious and perfectly private. Using details of stainless steel and wide mirrors in the bathrooms enhances a sense of cleanliness and space, a perfect ambiance for daily rituals.
RV Pegaso's sun/helicopter deck is an epitome of spacious luxury, with fore and aft sundecks. The aft sundeck, which doubles as the vessel's helicopter pad, is a lush full beam area with plenty of space for loose furniture and sun loungers. Inside a 54m2 fully equipped gym can be found, including panoramic views and a Jacuzzi fitting a company of 8.
The central lobby connects the gym with the forward observation lounge, which includes a bar. This lounge is designed in a similar style to the upper deck saloon, yet thrives on the abundant amounts of natural daylight. Facing forward, the 180 degrees panoramic views are the principal ingredients for this room's atmosphere. With flooring of wood and natural stone, a set of three curvy and comfortable sofas and several textures in the drapery, doors and furnishings spicing up the overall character of the room, this room is an observation lounge unlike any other. A fully equipped bar area allows guests to spend ample time here, generously soaking up the vista views in style.

With the dramatic 360 degrees panoramic views, this feels like a high-end apartment, located in an upper class area of any metropole. Yet, the views from here will be extraordinarily more varied and remarkable. The owner's saloon is based around a modern, L-shaped sofa with rectangular, leather-clad table piece on starboard side, and an office area portside. Through the central lobby, connecting the penthouse deck with the lower sun deck by staircase and private elevator, the master stateroom can be reached. And stately this area is, with truly magnificent surrounding views and and a round skylight right above the grand bed. Looking up at the skies from here during a night of one of RV Pegaso's endeavours must be simply striking. The en-suite is warm and spacious, with a solid round bathtub as extraordinary eye-catcher.
