Owner insight: Luxury living onboard the Nicole Evelyn

Lovingly named after their daughter, the 38.1-metre custom motor yacht Nicole Evelyn is the new superyacht of Frank and Valerie Montecalvo. Built by Cheoy Lee in 2003, the luxury vessel features the exterior design and engineering of Mulder Design whilst the luscious interior is the work of Puleo Inc following an update in 2016. Earlier this week we spoke to the Montecalvo family, alongside CEO Lee Becker and Ocean Independence charter broker Nicole Breaden, to discuss their love of yachting and the endless opportunities on board Nicole Evelyn.

Where did your love for yachting really begin?

Frank: We have been on and around boats all our lives, really. I grew up on the water and so I brought my children up in the same environment. The very first boat that we owned was a 32-foot Chris-Craft and from there we worked our way up to where we are today.

What is it that sets the Nicole Evelyn apart and what inspired you to buy her?

Valerie: Having moved up from the 100 ft Hatteras to the 125 ft Cheoy Lee and with my husband’s experience, we were more knowledgeable about what we wanted in a boat this time around. From an engineering standpoint, the stability of the Cheoy Lee really is incredible, and even in rough seas the ride remains impressively comfortable - it’s truly amazing! The design and the interior of the vessel had recently been upgraded, therefore she was very attractive to us from a cosmetic point of view as we were able to utilise the boat without any necessary interior refits which was great as new owners. The spaciousness of the vessel is something truly outstanding. At 125 feet, she feels much bigger on the inside thanks to her layout. I would also have to say that the crew really do set Nicole Evelyn apart - they are second to none. When we were on board the captain mapped out an outstanding route for us in the Exumas, and the food, as well as the service, left us speechless.

Is the Nicole Evelyn a suitable yacht to charter for all sorts of groups?

Nicole B: Nicole Evelyn has done many charters as Namoh with all sorts of groups, families, and friends including guests of all ages. The yacht and the crew really can cater to all ages and desires. Because of Captain Bill’s knowledge of not only New England but also the Bahamas, itineraries are able to be customized to fit guests wishes. With her unique Jacuzzi, vast sundeck and water toys, there is more than enough to keep all guests entertained whilst on board.

Is she available for charter this summer and if so where?

Nicole B: She is available for charter with Ocean Independence in New York during the summer months and the Bahamas in the winter season.

What destinations would you recommend guests chartering your boat to visit in the summer if they haven’t been in the area before?

Valerie: For us personally, the Newport area is a real favorite. Destinations like Martha’s Vineyard and the Hamptons are just lovely this time of year. Whilst we’re a little spoiled living so close to Manhattan, for anyone who hasn’t seen the New York harbour it is really something. Although it’s not the pristine blue waters you’ll see in the Bahamas, from a cultural standpoint there are so many beautiful places along the Hudson river that are spectacular to visit.
