Sales, technical and service staff from Ocean Yacht Systems (OYS) will enjoy a high profile presence at the ‘biggest and longest-running Superyacht event in the world’, the Superyacht Cup Ulysse Nardin Palma, taking place from the 11th to 14th June 2008 at Dique del Oeste, Palma de Majorca.
At this year’s event no less than 60% of the current entry list are yachts rigged with either rod, composite or hydraulic OYS products. Statistics such as these, however, are rarely surprising, when you consider that since 1997 well over 300 of the world’s largest and most prestigious sailing yachts have been equipped with bespoke OYS rigging systems.
Installing a bespoke new rigging system on a powerful, modern Superyacht is not entirely where the story ends. Failure to inspect and service both the easy and the not so easily accessible parts of a rig is a risky business, and a practice that should be avoided at all costs. That’s why at this year’s Cup, OYS Service Manager, Paul Russell and fellow staff, will be promoting the benefits of the OYS Service Programme.
The scheme was conceived out of the need to maintain and regularly service a yacht’s rigging, seen as paramount to improving performance, value, longevity and preserving the safety of guests and crew.
Participating yachts have their maintenance history recorded in a dedicated RigLog, which is safely stored back at the OYS head office. This information is continually updated at each service interval, so that, logically, the most appropriate and efficient future service and maintenance intervals for each yacht can be calculated.
This active and flexible programme can be tailored around the needs of each individual skipper and boat, and utilises only approved members of the OYS worldwide service network to carry out any inspections and remedial work. The service can even be extended to caring for yachts which have not been fitted with OYS products from the outset.
On the popularity of the scheme Paul adds: “In these changing times, busy skippers running large and complex Superyachts have more than enough regulatory and legislative issues to worry about. Our scheme has become popular by effectively relieving them of any short or long term concerns over their yacht’s rig and servicing. In some cases, parts renewal and maintenance can even be carried out from existing service records, without prior need to visit the boat.”
The OYS Service Programme is widely regarded as the original and the most comprehensive scheme within this specialist sector, offering yachts a truly worldwide service. This year alone, over 22 yachts over 40m length have already been serviced and maintained under this scheme.
