Sperry Marine supplies bridge electronics for new superyacht under construction in Turkey

Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC) is supplying the bridge electronics for a new luxury mega yacht being built at a shipyard in Turkey.

The equipment is being supplied by Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine business unit, and installed by STT Deniz Ticaret ve Servis Ltd, Sperry Marine’s sales and service representative in Turkey.

The 53-meter (175-foot) yacht is being built for a private owner at the Proteksan-Turquoise shipyard in the Tuzla Bay area of Istanbul. The vessel is being fitted with a full suite of navigation and communication systems from Sperry Marine. The equipment includes two radars, an electronic chart display and information system, a digital adaptive autopilot and steering system, gyrocompass and repeaters, transmitting magnetic compass, differential global positioning system (DGPS), automatic identification system, echo-sounder, electromagnetic speed log, weather sensors and a complete communication package that meets the international Global Maritime Distress and Safety System requirements.

The trawler-style mega yacht is the first of a new design from Proteksan-Turquoise. The steel-hull and aluminum superstructure vessel was designed by Paolo Caliari, and the interior is being designed by Jean Guy Vergès. Proteksan-Turquoise is a leading international builder of mega yachts, having delivered more than 28 vessels ranging in length from 20 to 58 meters (66 to191 feet) since 1976.

Sperry Marine is a major supplier of navigation and communication systems for the world’s luxury yacht industry. In Turkey, Sperry Marine also recently upgraded the navigation suite of the well-known 136-meter (446-foot) superyacht Savarona with new-generation chart radar systems. Originally built in 1931 and formerly owned by the Turkish government, it was the presidential yacht of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, founder and first president of the Republic of Turkey; Savarona is the 4th largest private, yacht in the world.
