Superyacht of the Week: The 60 metre charter yacht Lyana

With her curved lines and gently playful character, Lyana is a true charmer. With a deep blue hull, white superstructure and a look that subtly blends modern shapes with classic style, she is like a true lady: confidently elegant and delicately grand. And with her LOA of 60 metres, she has a lot of surprises in store, all of which are aimed at providing top level quality of sublime luxury, in a pleasing contemporary style with classic touches here and there. It is this pleasant manner that turns Lyana into an attractive superyacht for a highly satisfying summer charter along coasts of the Mediterranean, either for smaller companies of guests or for larger groups. And with a cruising speed of 14 knots, all Western Mediterranean destinations can be reached within the blink of an eye. Whether it be a calm and soothing, sumptuously luxurious vacation filled with ample lounging and relaxation, or extended traveling filled with excitement, tasteful parties and a wide variety of activities (or any combination of both), Lyana delivers all that can be desired and still finds room to surprise her guests... And so much more.

Sophisticated style and spacious environments are two of Lyana's key ingredients. With all interiors designed by Paris-based Pierre-Yves Rochon and team, who have left their distinguished signatures on an array of top-class projects ranging from the finest hotels & spas, restaurants and private residencies across the globe, elegance combined with plenty of personality and warmth is guaranteed. This is a design reminiscent of times past, yet eloquently modern and contemporary. Classic shapes, set in a colour scheme of beige and creme for furnishing and upholstery and framed by dark lacquered wood for cabinets and joinery, are key. With an intriguing and well-balanced design concept, Lyana is always elegant and never overly abundant. Perfectly framing this elegant style, is a collection of fine artworks found throughout, by several masters including Botero and Dali.

Space always forms the best framing for every design, and it is this ingredient that is so lavishly available, starting on the main aft deck. Upon entering, a grand U-shaped central sofa allows guest to be comfortably welcomed and take in the environment. Effortlessly seating 12, with room to spare, this large centerpiece is completed with a high gloss, dark wooden chest-shaped coffee table and a set of white upholstered wooden armchairs. With two additional fixed semicircular sofas adjacent to the main saloon doors, this area offers ample seating and functions as a perfect setting for a wide variety social gatherings.

Moving inside through big sliding glass doors, the main saloon boasts a pleasing, informal ambiance. A soothing classic design is combined with modern shapes and refined luxury materials to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The high contrast of dark wood and light carpeting and upholstery adds a tinge of serenity, almost feeling like an oriental touch. Separated by sliding doors, the main saloon is divided into a seating area and a main dining area. The former consists of two opposite arrangements of modern, cream leather sofas and a selection of charming curved armchairs to match, executed in either cream or chocolate and with sleek wooden backsides and plush upholstery. The glass tables add a sense of lightness and with the surrounding cabinets displaying a collection of sculptural art, the ambiance is stylish, grand and intimate. The design shows refined luxury without going overboard in abundance, always tasteful and with an overall calm and hospitable feel.

The main dining room extends the saloon's style theme, with a long rectangular dining table as centerpiece, dark and with a high-gloss surface. Surrounded by gently curved chairs, standing on slender legs and upholstered with soft cream leather, this formal dining area mixes up classic elegance with a contemporary colour palette. Add to that a sense of personal style and an exemplary ambiance for ample sophisticated dinner parties is created. Adding significantly to the room's character is the central luminaire, with soft beige translucent upholstery filtering and smoothing the light, and the grand off-white bas-relief stone tablet artwork occupying the central part of the fore dining room wall. This artwork instantly reminds me of a similarly styled piece I saw when I was onboard on the magnificent superyacht Numptia, in the Caribbean this winter. And here too, the work has a similar effect of adding a sense of calm and tranquility, like one would find in a place of worship. Combined with the classic themes of the additional artworks placed around the dining room, this wall piece seems to depict the ancient Greek myth of Amphitrite, wife of Poseidon, linking this modern superyacht with the sea as an infinite source of inspiration throughout history. This takes us back to the heart of what yachting is all about: a reminder of the thorough and deeply rooted love for life on the open water.

In reaching Lyana's sumptuous master suite, one passes the vessel's main foyer with it's central spiralling staircase connecting all interior decks in an almost glamourous fashion. With the plush cream carpeting and polished stainless steel banisters, the area seems to flow from deck to deck with natural light coming in from the sun deck skylight. And here too, several winks at ancient mythology can be found. The walls are covered in a wave pattern, with a wide variety of female figures, arguably depicting the Greek Sirens. Main eye catcher here is the central illuminated column, reaching up from the main deck and adding a sense of grandness.

With the double desk located right next to a large window, one is always accompanied by panoramic views when working. From here, the master lounge can be reached, which is a light, cozy and informal space centered around an invitingly large U-shaped off white sofa. A corridor between the impressively sized his and hers central walk-in wardrobe, connects the starboard lounge with the port side master bathroom. Lavishly spacious, this room has the look and feel of a fully equipped spa, with large white oval bath and a big separate shower area, including a lush monsoon shower and hydrojets. One's daily rituals with undoubtedly become a focal point of each day in a light, spacious and luxurious bathroom such as this.
