SuperYacht of the Week: The Riva 122 Mythos Sol

The new 37 metre Riva flagship is the Riva 122 Mythos, and is not only the first yacht to be built by the Italian shipyard completely in light aluminium alloy, but is also the largest yacht the brand have produced to date. The introduction of the new yacht marks a new milestone in their long history, and means that they now boast one of the widest and most diverse ranges in the world with 12 different models sized between 27 and 122 feet.

Designed by the co-founder of Officina Italiana Design who design the entire of Riva’s range, Mauro Micheli, in collaboration with Advanced Yacht Technology & Design (AYT&D), the Ferretti Group’s research, style and product development centre and the Interior Design and Technical Department of C&N, the Riva 122’ Mythos draws notable inspiration from a long seller of the Riva coupe yacht range, the 86’ Domino.

“Talking about a boat is always more difficult than designing it. The concept and lines of the 122’ were conceived in about 10 minutes; what really makes a difference and makes this model truly unique is the time devoted to defining its details. The 122’ Mythos stems from pure instinct - this is why I am convinced it will be successful for a long time, just like the Aquariva, the Rivarama and the Rivale, which are still being produced after so many years,” comments designer Mauro Micheli.

The first 122’ Mythos is presented in a Regal Silver colour which has been especially designed for this model, with the main materials used throughout including Canaletto walnut, leather and chromium-plated steel. The main deck features large, uninterrupted glazing and offers panoramic views and an abundance of natural light into the day area, which is connected to the raised pilot station and the forward galley.

The salon and the dining area have been conceived as an open space, and contain leather armchairs and comfortable sofas. The 55" TV, which can be completely concealed in the ceiling, is placed inside one of the two lacquered and steel panels at the entrance to the salon when coming through the glass door from the cockpit. The living area also features a large coffee table designed by OID and lined with dark brown leather and carpet by Bottega Conticelli.

The dining area is furnished with a large steel and glass table with 10 dark brown leather Minotti chairs. On both starboard and port sides there are two doors: the right door leads to the lobby with a head and the stairs leading below deck, while the left door opens into a spacious full beam galley, entirely furnished with white lacquered furniture and reflecting the owner's love for cooking and for practical solutions. This space includes a dinette seating up to 6 people.

The full beam master stateroom is furnished with natural wood furniture with dark brown leather and chromium-plated steel details. This room contains large wardrobes and a small starboard living area with brown leather couches and a wooden coffee table, as well a portside office area with a large central desk. The master bathroom has been fully customised by the owner and features a sauna. The VIP cabins mirror each other, one to starboard and one to port. They have both been furnished to match the style of the master stateroom, and are both fitted with a spacious bathroom and separate shower stall. The large side glazing ensures great brightness along the entire lower deck. All three cabins on this model are amidships to ensure maximum comfort also when cruising, while the crew quarters are located forward.

The stern cockpit includes 2 large L-shaped sun pads, coffee tables and a teak and steel dining table with seating for up to 10 people. From the cockpit access can be gained to the aft swimming platform, which separates the two garage doors. The garage can fit a more than 5 meter tender and a jet-ski on the right-hand side. A special electrical-hydraulic platform has also been installed, allowing for safe diving into the sea from the aft platform and easily launching of the water toys. Maximum attention was given to environmental impact reduction: several construction solutions have been adopted for which RINA has issued the voluntary “Green Plus” Class Notation. Launched in October 2008, this new Class Notation takes into account several environmental impact issues, including Co2 emissions, for both commercial and pleasure vessels. On Riva 122’ Mythos, in particular, the following construction solutions have been adopted: energy saving LED lighting; particular focus on waste handling procedure through solid waste source-sourcing and discharge of sewage (black and grey water), in compliance with an environmental protection plan; high-tech engines with low particulate matter and NOx emissions.

Alberto Galassi, Ferretti Group’s CEO, comments, “as an Owner of a Riva yacht myself, it is as if a new child or a new travel companion has joined our Riva family, a family with a more than a century old history. Celebrating the new ‘heir’ of this history, namely the 122’ Mythos, is simply extraordinary. We believe that with everybody’s efforts within the Ferretti Group, we will succeed in taking this newborn and the Riva brand as a whole to even higher goals, while getting stronger in all our loyal markets and penetrating new emerging ones. From now on the 122’ Mythos will be its standard-bearer.”
