Superyacht of the Week: The stunning Heesen Lady Petra

Renowned Dutch shipyard Heesen has an excellent reputation to uphold when it comes to delivering custom built superyachts. Dedicated to one simple and elegant main principle, “the performance of luxury”, a new delivery by Heesen always becomes something exciting to look forward to. As is the case with elegant Lady Petra, the brand new 47 metre steel displacement yacht that was launched in late April of 2012, in the presence of Mr. and Mrs. Heesen, the yacht's proud owners, and an additional seven hundred guests. The presence of such a large company shows the confidence Heesen have in their work, deservedly so since the shipyard has been building top quality superyachts for over thirty years. This extensive experience allows Heesen to deliver top quality, exceptional superyachts withing an impressive 24-month timeframe. And with Lady Petra being the eighth delivery in their award-winning 47 metre displacement class, there is again a lot to rejoice over. We visited the yacht two days ago in Monaco, at the 2012 Monaco Yacht Show.

In close cooperation with Lady Petra's experienced owner, she was developed from scratch and custom built into every single detail. This has resulted in a superyacht which is typically Heesen in combining maximum performance and efficiency, while remaining completely tailored to the owner's specific needs and wishes. In short, Lady Petra perfectly combines the owner's ideas and Heesen's expertise. This is a strategy that is implemented from the very beginning, starting with the bulbous shape of her bow, which allows the vessel to require less fuel to arrive at any given speed, while maintaining maximum volume. Designed by Omega Architects, there are surprisingly large amounts of space, both externally and internally, and with interiors designed by renowned Bannenberg and Rowell, Lady Petra raises the bar with regards to combining optimal performance, onboard luxury and fuel efficiency.

There are a number of surprising design features to be discovered onboard, many of which are the result of the owner's wishes and Heesen's aim for redefinition and reinvention. This gives Lady Petra a unique style and character, making her feel feels pleasantly familiar and surprisingly different. Ample space is one of many attractive features, with a total of 240 square metres divided across three levels she was designed as a true family yacht. She offers lush accommodation to a company of up to 12 guests, with the spacious upper deck master suite, main deck VIP suite and four additional lower deck guest staterooms, two doubles and two twins, at guests' disposal. This allows for a variety of guest company composition, enabling grandparents, parents and children to have a suitable luxury accommodation.

The latter are achieved mainly due to two surprisingly thin pillars supporting the shade-supplying awning, allowing one's eyes to unobtrusively wander and enjoy the views all while being supplied with a perfect amount of either sun or shade. A U-shaped arrangement of large sofas and a set of comfortable white wicker armchairs form the heart of this pleasant aft deck, designed in an inviting and informal style, both elegant and contemporary. This cosy atmosphere with a light, minimal design, is a perfect introduction to what Lady Petra is all about.

The design concept of light, minimal and cozy is extended into the main saloon, which offers an instantly appealing, warm contemporary style which might be best described as Dutch industrial design. The palettes of colours, materials and shapes form a well-balanced, friendly atmosphere, with a subtly luxurious undertone. Colours and materials are light and creamy, lines elegant and minimal and the overall character of the room is that of an informal, spacious luxury apartment. This is a style which effortlessly transforms from daytime to nightlife, changing mood and ambiance in the blink of an eye.

This intimate main saloon is divided into an aft pantry, central lounge and fore dining room. The lounge consists of large, cozy modern sofas and armchairs, allowing both informal get-togethers and stylish cocktail parties, and everything in between. The dining room has a large central dining table surrounded by modern white leather chairs, all set in a light and airy environment.

The central lobby houses the main circular staircase, with strips of tan leather leading up the walls and guiding the guests from deck to deck. From here, a corridor leads fore, where the master suite would be traditionally located. With the latter being located on the upper deck, this area offers guests a spectacular media room. This full beam room is fitted with a 65 inch screen and an arrangement of angled lounging sofas, allowing an optimal viewing angle from every seat. This truly emphasises Lady Petra's family-friendly and luxurious personality. Countless wonderful movie nights are undoubtedly held in these pleasantly comfortable surroundings, with custom-built silver oak furniture. Right around the corner, a study with an adjacent treadmill is conveniently located.

A light, contemporary design is combined with ample space to form a luxurious stateroom which obviously offers flexible functionality, again affirming family-friendliness in design and functionality. From here, following the central staircase belowdecks, four elegant, spacious and luxurious guests quarters can be found, all conveniently arranged around a central lobby for optimal accessibility. All boasting a modern style, with a luxurious palette of materials of woods, marble and the finest upholstery with ample amenities available. All en suites have a modern and airy ambiance, with large shower areas and natural light flowing in.

One of the latter's more ingenious features is a 180 degrees rotating, lacquered table. The master stateroom was designed around a remarkably large bed, offering a mattress measuring an impressive 210 x 220 cm according to the owner's specifications. With large windows on either side and sliding glass doors towards the aft deck, ample natural light perfectly frames this room's warm contemporary design.

The en suite, with large separate toilet and a spacious shower area, offers several unusual design elements such as backlit bamboo, angulated wood frames around the portholes and 3D mirror consoles. All this results in a design that is surprisingly different yet familiar, the perfect surroundings for one's daily rituals in perfect privacy.

The upper aft deck offers the perfect surroundings for ample intimate al fresco dinners and lunches. As such, it is the main space of a collection of outside dining arrangements to be found onboard, including additional setups on the main aft and sun decks plus a spacious fore upper deck terrace including adjacent sun pads. The master terrace offers a large dining table and additional seating aft, framed to perfection by vista views and ample privacy.

Moving upstairs from here, one of Lady Petra's most impressive, and equally family-friendly, features can be found in the form of a lush, large and lavish sun deck. Measuring an impressive 85 square metres, this deck offers a large fore Jacuzzi, a fully equipped bar and a big dining table with guaranteed shade courtesy of the reverse radar arch. An additional arrangement of aft U-shaped sofas, paired with all around vista views, and ample sun loungers available throughout assure this sun deck to be a guest favorite without any doubt.
