Superyachts invited to join 12th Asia Superyacht Rendezvous

The growing reputation of Phuket Island as a major ‘Superyacht Hub in Asia’ is supported by the prestigious annual Asia Superyacht Rendezvous. The largest gathering in Asia of both motor and sail superyachts from around the world is held over the holiday season December 16-18 in Phuket, Thailand.

Now in its 12th year, the elite invitational event attracts many of the stunning sail and motor superyachts from within Asia and throughout Europe, all streaming into Phuket to enjoy the festivities. The Asia Superyacht Rendezvous will once again be the focus of the owners, captains and crews of the beautiful Superyachts moored in Surin Bay in December 2012.

A welcoming cocktail party aboard one of the attending Superyachts jump-starts the fun and laid back sociable events. Featured are competitive sailing races, accompanied by the mammoth power boats, and opulent yet casual parties and festive activities to engage the 200 attending superyacht owners, captains, crew and VIP guests.

Owners and captains of motor and sailing vessels of 100’ (30 metres) or greater in length are invited to register their interest in attending the exclusive event.

As more and more superyachts make their way to the untouched cruising grounds of Asia, the event continues to flourish and grow. A huge benefit of attending the Rendezvous is to visit Phuket in Thailand, one of the top five cruising destinations in the world and located in the heart of the popular and emerging ‘Andaman Marine Triangle’.

Many vessels stay on for post-event holiday cruising in the Triangle, a favorite of the world’s superyachts and pushing Phuket to the forefront of Asia’s growing marine leisure industry. The provinces of Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi offer some of the most stunning sailing and cruising grounds in the world and share the same coastline and marine environment. Together they are becoming known as the marine playground for superyachts and luxury boating within Asia.

According to organisers, the magnificent vessels attending the Asia Superyacht Rendezvous in 2012 are expected to represent an estimated value of US$150 million, including those built by the Rendezvous Principal Sponsor, the world famous Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards.

The Asia Superyacht Rendezvous continues to push yachting interest – helping to create and stimulate demand for marine products and services for the big vessels visiting Asia. This in turn helps support the increasing demand for quality marinas, important to Phuket’s growing reputation as a top ‘Superyacht Hub’ and luxury yachting destination in Asia.

Phuket is on the threshold of providing more marina needs, according Rendezvous Race Director and PIMEX Show Director, Andy Dowden: “Over one billion baht of marina infrastructure development spending is expected in the Andaman Marine Triangle over the next five years, turning the area into the marine leisure playground of Asia as large-scale marine infrastructure in Phuket continues to develop. Further investment by established Phuket marinas is expected to be over 500 million baht and a likely expansion of berth capacity by more than 20% over the next five years.”

The superyacht industry is poised to really take off in Asia and Phuket is ready for yacht owners from the Caribbean and the Mediterranean to come and enjoy the stunning Asian cruising waters. Asia Superyacht Rendezvous is a golden opportunity for superyachts from around the world to meet up with old and new friends in a fun environment and beautiful setting in tropical Phuket Island in exotic Thailand.
