The new gulet style superyacht Daima

Daima is a stylish custom-built high performance 37 m (42.5 m LOA) all weather motor sailing yacht in the style of a Turkish Gulet. This is a real 'go anywhere' sailing boat, made for 'real' sailing whilst living luxuriously on board. All the comfort of a motor yacht with the excitement factor of a splendid 920 sq m Genakker and 730 sq m of working sail area. A beautiful looking yacht with the grace you would expect from a traditional craft: elegant and understated on the outside but classy and indulgent on the inside.

Daima’s hi-tech rigging and sails allow a performance which far surpasses that of a normal Gulet and, combined with her luxurious interior and superb outfit, lifts this “stand-out” yacht into a classification of her own.

Built in Antalya, Turkey by Arkin Pruva Argos Yachts under RINA supervision, Daima has a wood-epoxy construction hull and superstructure. With the exception of some varnished wood parts all surfaces are Awlgrip painted. The combination of polished stainless steel deck parts, varnished wood parts and teak deck add to the classical look of a Gulet.

Only the highest quality of both European and International equipment and materials were commissioned for use throughout the entire build. The air-conditioned interior is tastefully appointed to the exacting standards of the discerning owner with an eye on beauty, function and luxury down to the smallest detail to allow for 'living aboard' rather than 'staying aboard'.

The crew quarters, comprising of a Captain’s en suite double cabin and three crew cabins, have also been constructed to a high quality and include a galley for its experienced superyacht chef and a crew mess. Each guest cabin is equipped with a flat screen TV and console to avail of the state-of-the-art entertainment and sound system (over 1,000 films to choose from), together with internet access and ipod point. Each guest suite has its own mini-bar.

On performance S/Y Daima’s Captain, Stephen Johnson, says "from the time I joined the build of Daima, the question that was always asked was how fast do you think she’s going to go? There was an unknown quantity here as no-one before had tried to put such a big, hi-tech rig on a traditional Gulet shaped hull, although with her full length keel and reasonable ballast ratio, fully battened main and mizzen, carbon/vectran sails and in-boom furling, there was no reason why she should not peform."

"However, I could not get over her light air performance. Given a displacement of around 180 tonnes she sails beautifully in light to moderate winds, accelerating easily, and we have maintained 12+ knots 70 degrees off the wind and have seen 14 knots off the wind with the Genakker. Impressive to say the least."

"She moves easily under power with her twin C-12 Caterpillar engines, attaining her hull speed of 12.5 knots and cruises easily at 10 knots. The 70 hp Lewmar bowthruster simplifies docking, and the Besenzoni passarelle, at 5 m fully extended, complements the process."

"Overall performance for what we like to call a Performance Motor Sailer is 5 star."
