The rapidly evolving views on energy consumption and distribution onboard yachts will be revealed by the presentation of international research results at the 20th edition of the International HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction. This symposium will take place on 17 and 18 November 2008 in the Amsterdam RAI Convention Centre.
Royal Huisman placed the issue of power consumption and distribution centre stage in the recent design and construction of a sailyacht, and the yard will share its experiences at the HISWA Symposium. Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw (Feadship) will explain how it applies hybrid power in the design of large motoryachts. And the symposium will also host a discussion on the use of kites as a resource in the propulsion of the new Greenpeace boat eco design, Rainbow Warrior 3.

This will include a examination of ways to predict the sailing performance of classic yachts, flat-bottomed boats and J-Class yachts as well as modern racing yachts. In other words, with lots of valuable information available this is an event industry professionals will not wish to miss.”
The biennial HISWA Symposium was first held in 1967. Over the years it has developed into a renowned international forum where scientific and research results in the field of the design and construction of sail and motoryachts are presented. The designs that will be discussed will interest yachtbuilders, naval architects, (R&D) engineers, managers and students intrigued by the yachtbuilding industry.
The HISWA Symposium on Yacht Design and Yacht Construction is an initiative by the HISWA Association, the Delft University of Technology and Amsterdam RAI. It is supported by Feadship, MARIN, Royal Huisman, Amels and other key players.
