VSY's 72 metre flagship Stella Maris wows the crowds

After her resounding success at the Monaco Yacht Show, Stella Maris, VSY’s flagship, designed by Espen Oeino in cooperation with Laurent Giles Naval Architects, weighed anchor and headed down coast to take part in the opening weekend of the Genoa Boat Show where she - 72 metres long and 2,300 GT- was crowned undisputed flag ship of the show.

I stepped on board in Monaco, and discovered a superyacht that blends traditional elements of design and layout with new variations on a theme – such as the staggered internal decks, the heights of the saloons and the innovative form of the bow. The resulting layout ensures a volume, more usually seen in yachts of greater dimensions, of 2,270 GRT.

In Monaco we also learned that the yard is full of green solutions, such as the use of recyclable materials in their superyachts, engines able to run on high quality fuels, resulting in a drastic reduction of harmful emissions, water treatment systems that produce biologically transparent and odourless discharges, electric auxiliary engines for use in port which eliminate the need for the main engine, and a green anchoring system which stations the yacht by dynamic positioning for use where traditional anchoring is prohibited due to danger of damage, such as on coral reefs or in Scandinavian fjords.

Cristiana Longarini, the owner and Director of VSY commented: "For us, sustainability means discovering new routes and – as history teaches – courage and passion alone redesign the maps necessary for new ways forward".
