The suspected source of the overheating was a malfunction within Tomi’s bow thruster.

Eyewitnesses reported hearing an alarming explosion, induced by an overabundance of smoke building up inside the vessel, as dark clouds of smoke could be seen streaming out of her interior.

A team of Palma firefighters rushed to the scene shortly after in order to extinguish the fire. Staff at the port of Calanova transported the yacht to a safe location to avoid causing damage to other boats or marina visitors.

At the time of publishing, it is still unclear whether anyone was injured during the explosion.

Delivered in 2015 by the UK-based shipyard as the flagship of the Pearl range, Tomi is capable of hosting up to eight guests overnight across a four stateroom layout.

Tomi’s accommodation includes a master suite with a king bed, a VIP stateroom with a queen bed, along with two guest staterooms that have twin beds.

Having undergone a refit in 2022, the yacht was decked out with refurbished interior and exterior styling, as well as installed with Zero Speed stabilisers for a smoother journey.
