The Amels 212, like the Amels 171, is designed by Tim Heywood. He responded to the assignment with a boldly shaped superyacht, similar to the Amels 171, in a five-deck configuration with character that Heywood describes as “strong, feminine, athletic, and sleek.” Clearly, both the Amels 171 and Amels 212 were drawn by the same steady hand and fertile imagination.
Andrew Winch is creating a striking, highly original, interior within which each client may introduce personal variations according to their lifestyles and tastes. As Winch and Heywood are longtime colleagues since their years with Jon Bannenberg, harmonious relation between the exterior and interior is inevitable and welcome.
Amels’ naval architects converted Heywood’s many sketches into a big 65 meter with high volume for its length and 1,500 gross tonnage. The huge 200-m2 sundeck features a hot tub, wet-feet bar, jet-stream pool, enclosed “skygym,” and alfresco dining for 12. A touch-and-go helipad is optional.
On the bridge deck—abaft the wheelhouse, captain’s suite and pantry—Amels and Winch have placed two magnificent guest suites, adjoining a dramatic skylounge and alfresco dining area. Forward of the wheelhouse is a delightful fresh-air dining nook. The full-width owners’ suite—with dual bath, dressing room, and enclosed office—is forward on the main deck. The large main galley is amidships, connected to the main saloon and window-surrounded main dining room. On the lower deck a full-width VIP suite and two large guest suites are amidships, with 120 m2 of crew quarters for 16 in 10 cabins forward (a 4-person staff cabin is on the tank deck). Aft of the engine room the 100 m2 watersports store has large side-opening hatches for two 8-meter tenders.
A central elevator serves guests between the lower deck and sundeck, in parallel with a spiral staircase serving all decks. A dedicated stairway allows crew to move independently between tank and bridge decks.
The Amels 212 will carry a new low-noise electric bow thruster, to assure silent running, and is being built as a “green” vessel. Powered by twin Caterpillar 3516C diesels rated 2,350 kW @ 1800 rpm, top speed is 17 knots. With 155,000 liters of fuel range is 5,000 nm. Amels is building the 212 to Lloyd’s Register Class x 100A 1 SSC Yacht (P) Mono G6 x LMC, UMS and to full compliance with the MCA Large Commercial Yacht Code (LY2) under Cayman Islands registry.

Amels to begin work on second Limited Edition superyacht
Amels, acknowledged masters of the art of superyacht building, announces plans to begin construction of the second in its Limited Editions series, the 64,7-meter Amels 212. This decision follows the stunning success of the Amels 171, introduced at the Monaco Yacht Show in 2005. At the time, Amels had elected to begin building two hulls, and in a few months sold both. Client inquiries then put Amels in the strong position of beginning construction of the third and fourth, one of which is also sold. Amels is now preparing to build the fifth and sixth.
