In the second phase, the focus will be on implementing this with a comprehensive materials database and user-friendly calculation tool.&nbsp;This will allow manufacturers to conduct eco-design and comprehensively reduce environmental impact, as well as communicate the environmental footprint to consumers, stakeholders and regulators. The project has already been presented to the EU Commission and has received strong support.The threshold of 24 metres was chosen to align with EU regulations, and will be based on a coherent Life Cycle Assessment approach, following the stringent EU Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules.“We need a proactive and pragmatic approach to sustainability and this project will develop the tools that industry needs,” concluded Robert Marx.

Effective April 8, Rossi has relinquished the powers previously granted to him by the board of directors on April 28 and June 22, 2022. As I could not find anyone who offered what I needed, I thought it was something the world needed! Turns out it did – phew! The tenders and toys had always been a specific area of interest for me as a previous captain and a yacht manager, and I believed I had a very specific skill set which others could use on their projects! Prior to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">SYTT</a> I was Chief Instructor of a yacht training school, so had a huge amount of experience in all manner of craft. I also had a job driving boats in films, followed by captaining various sailboats between the UK and NZ, followed by a few years working for <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Hill Robinson (Company)">Hill Robinson Yacht Management</a>. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/303864/image/large-056c07999a8a74c083bc6d9ac61fd644.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/303864">Could you elaborate on some key milestones and challenges that have shaped the company's journey so far?&nbsp;Initially it was just my wife and I working from home but very quickly we grew with seemingly large steps such as getting offices, warehousing and growing our staff. In recent years with Brexit, covid and the Ukraine war this has certainly caused some additional challenges. Some of these are positive, such as us setting up a Monaco company and extending our warehousing to Nice to cater for EU clients.We were ahead of the market (first to market) in the offering we were doing as a business when we set up and that certainly helped us grow as a business. Typical tenders onboard yachts were a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2473" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Novurania (Company)">Novurania</a> or a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5361" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Zodiac Maritime Ltd. (Company)">Zodiac</a> and toys were usually a Jet Ski and towable. As we know this has greatly changed, with tenders and toys being critical to the enjoyment and marketing of a yacht, with a typical 50 metre spending approximately €100k on a new-build toys setup and yachts having multiple, often custom yacht tenders, limousines and chase boats. In the very early days, many tender manufacturers were unknown and poorly marketed, and our experience made a huge difference in helping guide clients into the best craft for their needs.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/303865/image/large-c67e542ebaca2327d33f9f53256808f2.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/303865">In terms of milestones one significant one was where we won a Queen's Award and met the Royals at Buckingham Palace in 2017. We also won numerous other awards such as the British Marine Federation (BMF) Best Marine Business to work for, BMF Business of the Year and Sunday Times Fasttrack awards showing company growth. Other milestones are some large new-build orders which we got a lot of PR and marketing from. We have been lucky to work with some innovative owners and an example which instantly springs to mind is the original Ulysses U107 (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/4946" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Andromeda107.4m (352'4&quot;)Kleven Maritime AS2016">Andromeda</a>) and U116 (now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/5796" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Multiverse116.0m (380'7&quot;)Kleven Maritime AS2018">Multiverse</a>) made by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2996" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Kleven Maritime AS (Company)">Kleven</a>. On these we completed the full tenders and toy outfitting, showcasing what it is we do. We are now involved in a lot of large new-builds in a similar capacity. In truth, the larger the project the more value we add and are often considered an extension to a new-build team.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/203481/image/large-f2ec189e8856bb169bf1f545e7f7c8b7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/203481">How has the company evolved to meet the changing demands of the industry?&nbsp;There have been several changes over the years to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">SYTT</a> and we are now a Group of companies. This includes:&nbsp;• <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6281" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Shipyard Supply co (Company)">Shipyard Supply Co</a>, setup in 2018, specifically aimed at manufacturing and selling our own deck equipment out of our Suffolk, UK HQ. This includes transom fenders, carbon pillar fenders, tender whips and more.• Incorporating <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">SYTT</a> MC in 2019, our Monaco business, required due to Brexit but also setup to increase our presence to operational yachts and toy rental in the Med.• Launching <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6504" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="ROAM (Company)">ROAM</a> boats in 2021, our own brand of aluminium adventure yacht tenders.• Bringing to market our own Superyacht Inflatables, manufactured in the EU and made from a recyclable TPU instead of PVC.&nbsp;A constant theme with our businesses has been the development to offer what the market is after and adjust what we offer to suit, constantly being in evolution. The requests we got back in 2011 are very different to what we now receive. An example of this is that we used to get asked to populate a tender garage and had a very loose brief. Nowadays people are more educated and know specifically what they want. One significant change for us as a business is that now, in 2023, an increasing number of clients are after a manufacturer direct relationship. This is partly due to price, to ensure the best value, service and communication. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/221830/image/large-dcfd9578fc59eae1b469069b3c099f14.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/221830">As the CEO, what strategies have you employed to foster a culture of innovation within the company?Innovation has been easy! Clients simply ask us to develop new things, whether that be products or services. In terms of personnel we are a very relaxed office and everyone mucks in at all levels. Office doors are always open and both Claire and I have always shared all information throughout the company. This is done face to face but we also share info internally on newsletters, days out and corporate events. Everyone is as important as each other, that is why we have things such as company wide bonuses, which are the same value if junior admin to senior management.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/303862/image/large-e593931158c77696b4e0c14e5b233bca.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/303862">Are there any strategic partnerships or collaborations that have played a significant role in the growth and success of&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">Superyacht Tender and Toys</a>?&nbsp;There are a number of ones here, and thinking about this they mostly rotate around who we like, are friends with and trust. Exceptional relationships on the tenders side have been <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5749" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Ribeye Tenders (Company)">Ribeye</a>, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4767" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Compass Tenders Ltd (Company)">Compass</a> and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/4611" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Argo Navis (Company)">Argo Navis</a>. On the toys side it is hard to look past JOBE, Watersports World and Flite.&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/2854" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Tenders and Toys (Company)">Superyacht Tender and Toys</a>&nbsp;has expanded its scope beyond traditional yacht toys. Can you share insights into the diversification of the company's offerings and how this has contributed to its overall success?&nbsp;There are actually a few ways to answer this. We made our name back in 2011 being a one stop shop. Whether this be fenders, toys, tenders, ropes, gym equipment, procurement and much more. I remember us shipping bottled water around the world for one yacht! We have however had a mini reset in recent years and we now do not market ourselves like this. We no longer do procurement of anything other than tenders and toys. We are very good at what we do, often being seen as a management consultancy and having unique industry experience and do not want to compete with procurement companies selling toilet rolls, crockery, cushions and filters. This change was mainly due to a combination of seeing which products do well for us as a business. Procurement was the worst and one which no staff enjoyed. On the fun front we are working on plans to cycle across the channel on a hydrofoiling bike and skydive from a helicopter in Monaco!Finally, what advice would you give to prospective entrepreneurs in this sector?I would tell them it is terrible, you will never earn money and to look for a different sector! Go and sell crew uniforms or something! Like all Greeks, Nikolas Pateras has an inherent love for the sea, but his passion for seafaring goes beyond that of even his most water loving countrymen. Born into a seventh generation shipping family, Nikolas has been raised on the water, surrounded by yachts and vessels of all sizes. At the age of only 33 he acquired his first yacht, the 31.5-metre classic <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/212" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Benetti SpA (Company)">Benetti</a> <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/757" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dama di Cuori31.5m (103'4&quot;)Benetti SpA1970">Moongoddess</a>, which sparked a lifetime's journey of yacht ownership that has seen him own eight yachts over the past twenty seven years. By the late 1800s, the familial business had grown from small wooden vessels to clipper ships and by 1902 they purchased the first steamship.A legacy of perseverance and determination, the family business has been through good years and tough times, losing all their ships in both World Wars. Nikolas first joined the company Pateras Brother Ltd, in 1986 at the age of 23, and since joining has managed 150 vessels. In 2015 he moved into the container ship market with Contships Management Inc. While cargo ships are his business, it is in yachts that Nikolas and his family get the most pleasure. “My father and uncle had boats from the early 1970s, and my uncle built a trawler with accommodation in the bow. I used to spend all my time onboard, working as crew at the age of 14-15 during the summer holidays learning the ropes. The lady I acquired her from even gave me the Hermes cigar humidor that was originally onboard, which I still have to this day. ”She was the first Adamas, the Greek word for Diamond”. The 59-metre yacht had an interesting history having been owned and built by the Emir of Abu Dhabi as an almost exact copy of the 61-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a> superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1435" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Sanoo61.0m (200'2&quot;)Feadship1979">Sanoo</a>. “She was an interesting size and had nice <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/29" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Feadship (Company)">Feadship</a>-esque lines, so I called the broker and offered $8 million. He said that it was never going to happen, and that they had two American clients offering $14. But not long after I got a call back because the Americans would only take the yacht if she was delivered to the Med, and the owner was refusing to send the yacht through the Suez Canal, so whoever took delivery would have to do so in Abu Dhabi. I sent a few guys down there, and they looked her over, said she was in great condition so we put the offer back on the table. The Emir accepted and even left all the furnishings and cutlery onboard, as well as two <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/363" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Riva S.p.A. It was my dream that the children would grow up sailing as I had, but while they loved being onboard, neither took to sailing particularly. Then one day in 2010 my captain called me and said that there was a man sitting on the dock staring at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3971" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Gloria38.4m (125'12&quot;)Jongert Yachts1986">Gloria</a>. I sent one of the crew to approach the guy, who turned out to be Peter De Savary, previously owner of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/209" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Pendennis Shipyard Ltd (Company)">Pendennis</a>. Nikolas explains, “Cecilia was in Mykonos with her husband and saw the boat and asked to come onboard. They loved the yacht and asked to buy her. I told them I was considering a faster yacht, but selling her was a big mistake. Despite acquiring two <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/220" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cantieri di Pisa (Company)">Cantieri di Pisa</a> yachts over the course of eight years, the style of vessel wasn’t really for him. In 2017 while cruising <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/2134" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Möbius38.0m (124'8&quot;)Cantieri di Pisa1996">Adamas III</a> in Corfu, Nikolas saw the 32.72-metre, black-hulled <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/539" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally B32.72m (107'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd1998">Wally B</a> for the first time. Belonging then to Mr Nathaniel Rothschild and on the market for €4.5 million, Nikolas reached out to the broker to enquire if she could be bought for €2.5 million - the answer was a resounding no.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/118627/image/large-e4568cc43f0bc9b48a65b553238d11e3.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/118627">A large beam for a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/539" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally B32.72m (107'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd1998">Wally</a> at nearly 8 metres and a large central cockpit, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/539" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally B32.72m (107'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd1998">Wally B</a> is a high performance carbon yacht that also caters to liveaboard periods and the type of entertaining that Nikolas and his family enjoy aboard their yachts. A year after his first inquiry, Nikolas received a call from Mr Rothschild, who was about to launch the 73.2-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/1596" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Planet Nine73.2m (240'2&quot;)Admiral2018">Planet Nine</a>, and was looking to sell <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/539" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally B32.72m (107'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd1998">Wally B</a>. A deal was made and eventually Nikolas took ownership of the yacht, which at the time was in bad shape having been mostly unused for over a year. <img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/42647/image/large-94351e4d5ae88a2de2e992836f00685e.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/42647">“We brought the boat to Piraeus, did a huge amount of work on her, including painting her hull white replacing the sails and my children and wife fell in love with her. I even tried to sell her once or twice, but my wife threatened to shoot me if I sell the boat – in fact she is a wonderful yacht and we enjoy her a huge amount. Low maintenance, lovely lines that were futuristic at the time, but are now completely contemporary, and very seaworthy, we all enjoy cruising the Greek islands with her.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/20360/image/large-6dc60a5d7e95e64bcd393c4c5e4da2d6.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/20360">Nikolas’ most recent acquisition in 2023 is the 65.25-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adamas V65.25m (214'1&quot;)Cantieri Navali Nicolini Srl1987">Adamas V</a>, previously Yaakun, originally built for &nbsp;the Emir of Qatar as&nbsp;Al Menwar. An unusual yacht in regards to her configuration with all guest staterooms on the sundeck and a huge engine room and crew quarters Nikolas explains that part of his reason for this acquisition was that she was, at the time, the only reasonably priced 60 plus metre yacht on the market. She has since undergone a significant refit of over €5 million to bring her up to European standards under the supervision of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/76" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vafiadis (Company)">Giorgio Vafiadis</a>. “A very solid, large fast displacement yacht able to cruise at 21 knots, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adamas V65.25m (214'1&quot;)Cantieri Navali Nicolini Srl1987">Adamas V</a> had an unusual appeal to me and I knew after inspection that she had the potential to become a fantastic superyacht.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/20361/image/large-88e6ae6154a3cc3b615ae7dc234a4011.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/20361">While Nikolas enjoyed the yacht over the past summer, his eyes are once again set on the horizon and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/82" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Adamas V65.25m (214'1&quot;)Cantieri Navali Nicolini Srl1987">Adamas V</a> may be soon placed in the market, freshly refitted and looking better than ever. With <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/539" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Wally B32.72m (107'4&quot;)Pendennis Shipyard Ltd1998">Wally B</a> the family favourite, Nikolas would like to build a 30-metre displacement yacht to cruise between the Greek islands and entertain friends, as he said, “Adamas VI will be the boat they bury me in!”&nbsp;Despite this assurance, it's hard to believe that after an extraordinary repertoire of eight superyachts behind him, Nikolas will be one to throw in the towel, so who knows how many Adamas we may see in the future. “When I saw Moongoddess in Monte Carlo I fell in love”—serial yacht owner Nikolas Pateras

The 24.5-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5603" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="VisionF (Company)">VisionF</a> 82 yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12081" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Flagship24.5m (80'5&quot;)VisionF2023">Flagship</a> was engulfed in flames on Sunday 28 April, following a fire at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/127" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Merrill Stevens Yachts (Company)">RMK Merrill-Stevens</a> shipyard in Miami, USA.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309854/image/large-e57e6b6ff607b11ef80837d8be05101e.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309854">The yacht arrived at the facility last week and was situated in the water under the shipyard’s shed. When the Miami Fire Rescue team arrived on the scene on Sunday morning, they saw how extensive the fire was and had to send out a second alarm to request more units to assist with the damage.According to news broadcaster NBC6 Miami, 34 units attended the fire and over 100 firefighters were on the scene. Due to the billowing smoke and the complexity of the incident, the team had low visibility while tackling the flames onboard <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12081" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Flagship24.5m (80'5&quot;)VisionF2023">Flagship</a>. <iframe width="640" height="360" src="https://player.vimeo.com/video/940719646?share=copy" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen="" class="fr-draggable"></iframe> The fire was under control after an hour, with Miami Police posting a traffic alert to social media saying the 12th Avenue bridge along NW 7th Street was shut down due to the boat fire and urged drivers to take an alternate route. The cause of the fire is yet to be determined, but authorities believe the solar panels onboard also helped to fuel the fire further.&nbsp;"[<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/12081" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Flagship24.5m (80'5&quot;)VisionF2023">Flagship</a>] also has solar power panels on the top and a lot of electrical batteries as well that power those solar panels. So, that is obviously fueling the flames," explained Miami Fire Lieutenant Pete Sanchez to NBC6. The structural modifications were primarily aimed at fortifying the coastal settlement, resulting in an infrastructure designed to withstand and adapt to the impacts of climate change.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309843/image/large-d4018518a155a33e0e60339883e64f9e.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309843"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/309844/image/large-d7dda5cce9c0697bb959e6ad81184a12.jpeg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/309844">This achievement was facilitated by the use of 1,600 twenty-ton tetrapods, 170,000 tonnes of boulders, a breakwater extending dozens of metres into the sea, and the construction of a 7-metre high sea wall above sea level. Additionally, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/3400" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Porto Carlo Riva (Company)">Carlo Riva</a> will be the first port in Liguria to utilise water from the Rapallo purification plant for up to 80 percent of its non-potable water requirements, catering to needs such as boat washing and the irrigation of green areas. It is proof of how important it is to have courage in choices and a vision for the future. Some say the port is for rich gentlemen with their expensive toys, but it is these expensive toys that employ tens of thousands of people: here, 200 local people will find employment, ensuring the operation of this facility year-round, thanks to the services offered. Liguria is the leading nautical production district in Italy and it is in places like this, that the vessels built by our workforce are housed," he concluded.
