New 101m superyacht concept from Roberto Curtò

Superyachts Monaco has announced thier collaboration with designer Roberto Curtò of RC Designs on a new 101-metre superyacht concept. Named Mauna Kea, the expedition yacht has been designed with global exploration in mind and will accommodate up to 12 guests and a crew of 22 on board. She features naval architecture by Mario Grasso of Navirex.

Speaking to SYT, Roberto Curtò says, “New ideas are not invented by anyone, but are rather born from a client’s necessity. Those needs are then articulated by someone who has a talent to interpret them. In this case I wanted to design a yacht that would conceptually allow guests to "run" from the bow to the aft deck without crossing the interiors and even to travel faster and with maximum enjoyment by sliding from one deck to the other into the refreshing pool as if escaping from an erupting volcano!

Continuing to elaborate on the design of the new 101m concept, Curtò continues: “The full beam owner’s suite has complete privacy, as the stairs are designed to let people reach the helipad and swimming pool without any view into the Owner’s area and without disturbing in any way. The main deck from a guest’s point of view is actually the upper deck, giving the feeling of a much larger stern. With the dining area located below, you can choose to go up one deck to the main deck or to the beach club/cinema down below.

Commenting on the increase in interest from owners in using their vessels for real exploration purposes, Superyachts Monaco - who are working with RC Designs on the marketing and promotion of the vessel - explains: “Indeed we do see an increase in owners and that is tangibly demonstrated by the amazing global program that Cloudbreak who we represent for charter is currently undertaking. Owners want to go further afield and they want to be able to do so with yachts that have serious autonomy and range. The world gets smaller all the time and there is increasing interest in exploring its far corners.
