New Espen Øino 65m Waterecho project to feature hydrogen fuel cell technology

VSY has teamed up with Siemens and Lloyd’s Register to develop a project for the application of hydrogen fuel cell technology on a unique version of the new 65m Waterecho superyacht concept from Espen Øino.  VSY Waterecho - new 65m conceptPhoto: VSY WaterechoUnveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show last week, the new concept sees VSY continue to invest in green technologies and innovative solutions through the introduction of new equipment onboard the concept.
Featuring an exterior design from Espen Øino, together with an optional interior design from Italian designers Dante O. Benini & Partners Architects, the new 65-metre project aims to raise awareness for conscious, luxury yacht building.

Able to accommodate up to twelve guests in six cabins, Waterecho was developed with comfort and luxury in mind. For example, the new superyacht concept owner’s cabin, located forward of the main deck, offers ceiling heights of up to 4 metres. Making the best use of the wider surface available, thanks to the mezzanine that grants access to a private foredeck, the spacious internal volume of the concept is evident throughout her interior design. The main saloon, 13 metres in length, offers 100 square metres of space and features panoramic views through the aft and flanks. In addition, she also offers nine crew cabins, hosting up to 16 crew members.  VSY Waterecho - new 65m conceptPhoto: VSY WaterechoThe addition of two pools underlines the sense of luxury and comfort, with the larger pool located on the main deck and the second one adjoining the gym on the sun deck. The main garage, which can house both a large limo tender and a rescue tender, has lateral shell doors on both flanks of the hull forepart, which creates space on the low deck for a second aft hangar. Alternatively, potential owners can choose to extend the surface of the beach area across the entire width.

The integrated energy and propulsion system, developed by Siemens, is designed for the shipping industry and enables an easy integration of battery systems in order to help drive forward the integration of hydrogen fuel cells modules in shipping and create a greener energy supply system for the superyacht. VSY is set to undertake the technical and commercial feasibility of hydrogen fuel cells and their installation on board, while Siemens offers their technical solutions, and Lloyd’s Register is set to carry out a preliminary assessment for the certifications to assess the requirements for feeding the stern electric engine are sustainable.  VSY Waterecho - new 65m conceptPhoto: VSY WaterechoIn addition, the new concept will also see the installation of the latest-generation electric generators, the implementation of exhaust gas treatment systems on the main engines and onboard electric generators, heat-saving measures, as well as the use of more sustainable materials. The unique energy and propulsion system is set to give Waterecho a maximum speed of 16 knots, with a range of 5,000 nm at 12 knots.
