Feadship recently launched Go at the Koninklijke De Vries Scheepsbouw yard in Aalsmeer. She is the third yacht in the exclusive and pioneering SL39 modular concept. I was invited to join Feadship in Monaco last week, to spend the day cruising the French riviera, and to find out exactly what the SL39 concept is all about.
When we sailed out of Monaco, we caught some of Monaco’s infamous swell. Go’s well balanced hull however ensured that the ride was smooth and stable, and we were soon cruising at a steady 10 knots.
Like the other two SL39s, Ocean Mercury (launched in 2008) and Kathleen Anne (2009), Go is every inch a custom superyacht above the waterline. Her instantly recognizable Feadship exterior profile has been designed by De Voogt Naval Architects. The modern interior comes from FPA Architects, the winner of the five Dutch top designers, which Feadship had challenged to design the interior for the mk3.
The light and airy, yet sophisticated interior style draws on a variety of colors, textures and fabrics. In the dining room and the main salon the wall panelling is made in teak in a natural finish and the ceiling is finished with majilite. The modular sofa in the main salon is finished in a Dominique Kieffer fabric, and can face aft, or be easily changed to face to a 46” plasma screen, located above the high gloss lacquer china cabinet, which separated the salon from the dining room.
The surprisingly spacious dining room features an oak stained in black table. Again, the quality of finish is typical Feadship, and presents te best of the best. The sliding doors are equipped with a satin back painted glass panel, and the floor covering carpet is ‘BIC Shadow Silver Linen.’
The large master stateroom epitomizes the calm and peaceful atmosphere that pervades every area of the yacht. Oversized windows provide a great view outside from the bed, whilst the full beam layout of the room prevents guests and crew walking past, and thus provides plenty of privacy.
Flexibility is a major hallmark of Go’s smart layout, with the option to transform two of the four guest suites into full-width VIP staterooms complete with its own lounge. Whilst cruising past Eze at 10 knots, against wind and waves, sound was almost completely absent in the cabins, a true testament to Feadship’s engineering and sound isolating capabilities. The yacht’s one duct marine air-conditioning plant, which services all accommodation spaces, is a feature, normally found on much larger yachts, and further reduces noise on board.
The most popular guest area on board will surely be the bridge deck salon, and it's adjacent aft deck. The salon features wall panelling of teak in a natural finish, and in the salon itself, the floor covering is teak parquet with wengé stripes. The teak flooring ensures that the salon blends in perfectly with the aft deck. FPA have used spiny back leather for the seating, located within the large windows. By pushing the seating into the windows, the room remains open and spacious. The main feature of the bridge deck salon however is the large central bar, where again Feadship engineers have developed clever solutions for storage. Bas Nederpelt, co-director of sales & marketing at the De Vries yard, demonstrated how the entire bar surface slides to one side, revealing storage and a hidden sink.
The bridge deck salon opens onto the large upper aft deck through a quadruple sliding door. By opening the door completely the whole area becomes one large indoor/outdoor area. The aft deck features loose furniture, which allows the deck to be set up in different configurations. The dining table comfortable seats 8, but when desired, can be easily extended to seat 12.
From the bridge aft deck, stairs lead up to the multi purpose sundeck. The aft part of the sundeck is equipped with loose sun loungers, as well as a small breakfast table and chairs. Just forward under the radar mast is a large Jacuzzi, flanked by sun mattresses, and a beautiful modern chaise longue.
Go is a full displacement world cruiser with a steel hull, aluminium superstructure and a top speed of 14 knots. Her engine room, built a degree of perfection that only Feadship engineers can achieve, is equipped with twin 12V2000 M70 MTU diesel engines. They provide a 4.000nm range at 10 knots. The main five-meter tender is stored in the lazarette, behind a large transom hatch. Opening the hatch creates a sizable swimming platform.
Go is offered for sale through the yard for €27.500.000, and offers an unique opportunity to purchase a brand new 2010 Feadship, in time to embark on a maiden summer season to remember. Go is also available for charter through Feadship’s Charter division, which is run from the Feadship America office.
