Built by Heesen Yachts and launched in 2005, the 41.30 metre superyacht Seven Sins is currently undergoing a refit at the Balk Shipyard facilities in Urk, the Netherlands. SuperYacht Times recently spoke to the captain of Seven Sins, Emmanuel Nugues, who informed us that the work to be completed includes a new paint job, a 10 year survey and completely new crew accommodation which will be MLC 2006 compliant.
In addition to this work, Seven Sins will also undergo an extension by means of having her bow completely replaced. Extensions to yachts are most often completed through a stern or amidship extension, making this refit completely unique. The extension will add a total of 2.3 metres to Seven Sins, making her total length 43.60 metres.
Van Oossanen Naval Architects are responsible for the technical realisation of the bow extension.
Captain Emmanuel Nugues comments on the project, saying, “Seven Sins is spending 6 months at the Balk Shipyard to undergo her latest refit. At the end of the yard period, she will have gained 11gt, so approximately 30m3 in volume, all used to comply with MLC 2006 crew accommodation legislation. When a yacht is being extended, it is generally done from either mid ship or the stern. Having the bow completely removed and replaced by a larger one, not only is quite uncommon, but very challenging in many aspects, including in matters of stability, fuel consumption and manoeuvrability.

The project is being managed by Jacob de Boer from the Orange Boat House, and Wim Mooiweer from the Balk shipyard, who have the refit on schedule for her May 2015 completion date.
