Phillipe Briand shares details about 52m Tankoa superyacht Vitruvius 10

Vitruvius Yachts has signed the contract for an all-new 51.5-metre superyacht, dubbed Vitruvius 10, which will be constructed by Tankoa Yachts in Genoa, Italy. After finding so much pleasure in chartering, the owner and his partner approached the world-renowned naval architect, yacht designer, and head of Vitruvius Yachts, Phillipe Briand, to help them actualise their dream.

“We received a call from this dynamic husband and wife team back in November 2020,” Briand said. “As newcomers to yacht ownership, they had carried out extensive research on designers and asked if we could support them in their mission. We knew their mixture of enthusiasm and rationality would  be a great match with our team, so of course we agreed!” Philippe BriandBriand continued: “We received an extensive brief four days later which did initially make us scratch our heads and ask: ‘How are we going to achieve all of their requirements for a 52-metre yacht and stay under 500 GT? Since then, we have produced 15 versions and developed the project down to the very last centimetre to make it all fit perfectly, finalising the general arrangement with FM Architettura.”

Two key requirements of the owners were to have a large sundeck that has plenty of interior space, and to ensure that the yacht maintained excellent stability while underway. Another challenge for Briand and his team:

“This is where naval architecture and exterior design must go hand-in-hand. As we plan the yacht’s design, we always think about its technical viability; the structure of the vessel and how it will be built by the shipyard. Obviously, this adds an extra layer of complexity, but it guarantees that the client’s plans will be executed once they have been approved.”

The exterior styling of Vitruvius 10 will be distinctly Vitruvius and retain all the hallmarks of the design studio: clean, sleek lines. Her interior spaces have been designed by the Italian FM Architettura, who have carved out space for as many as 10 guests across six generous staterooms. Some of her standout features include her large sundeck, designed for yoga and other leisurely pursuits, as well as more than 250 square-metres of terraces, spread throughout the yacht. Vitruvius 10 will be equipped with a hybrid propulsion that will allow her to cruise for 4,000 nautical miles.

Managing the project is Albert McIlroy at Optimus Navis who expects to see her in the water early 2025.
