About Balk Shipyard

Balk Shipyard in the Netherlands was founded in Elburg in 1798. At first they built wooden fishing vessels, then they changed their course to steel and aluminum barges and small yachts early 1900s before focusing on building and refitting superyachts a few years later. The fast growing yard needed to expand from Elburg to the picturesque harbour town of Urk in 2004. Today it rebuilds and refits superyachts of up to 65m in length in superb facilities.

Balk has three ultra-modern refit halls, state-of-the-art workshops and a paint spraying cabin. Very unique is the slipway installation that lifts vessels of up to 1200 tons out of the water. The yard is only a one-hour drive from Amsterdam so easy for owners and their representatives to visit. Also Balk Shipyard is perfectly accessible by boat.

Balk Shipyard was granted an exclusive Royal Seal of Approval in 2002, which symbolizes the confidence that the Dutch Royal family has in a company.

Balk Shipyard has decades of experience in refitting and rebuilding superyachts and can be called a true refit specialist. Owners choose Balk Shipyard for their no-nonsense approach, their quality and excellent craftsmanship. Undertaking a refit or rebuild needs a mindset which is completely different from building a new yacht. With Balk Shipyard’s team of well-experienced project managers, know-how and trust from the Owners side, the yard is capable of creating the unimaginable. Balk Shipyard could be a strategic stop for a refit or maintenance when traveling to Northern Europe or when course is set from North to South.

Yachts as EMERALD, DANCING HARE, EXPLORA, SANDALPHON, BRAVADO, CARYALI AND MIKHAIL S. VORONTSOV have turned into the best version of themselves.
