(Company)">Nauta’s</a> design DNA. Pedol’s grandfather was chief engineer aboard ocean liners, and his own formative years spent racing and cruising translated into a deep understanding of life at sea. His first steps in yachting came while still at university through the Avventura 703, a Mini Tonner designed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/289" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Vallicelli Design (Company)">Andrea Vallicelli</a>, with 40 units produced in 2 years.Originally a builder and designer, the company’s early milestone was the Nauta 54, co-designed with Scott Kaufman in 1986, which introduced <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta’s</a> enduring commitment to creating spaces that are both functional and elegant. Over the following decades, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta</a> grew from its shipyard origins into a pure design house, with its methodical and technically driven approach to detailing, from cabinetry and joinery to naval architecture, forming the backbone of its style.For co-founder Massimo Gino, the longevity of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta’s</a> style lies in its restraint. “The key is to stay true to your vision, and the market recognises and rewards your style,” he explains. Its designs are characterised by clean, timeless lines that remain relevant over time – an identity that has become the studio’s hallmark.Today, under the continued leadership of Pedol and Gino, the studio is in a phase of transition. Senior designers Martino Majno and Guido Valtorta have taken on greater responsibility, steering day-to-day management as Directors. With a team of 25, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta Yachts</a> has built its reputation on the rare ability to balance bespoke superyacht projects with large-scale series production, applying the same ethos across both. As Guido Valtorta explains, the process is not about switching mindsets but refining solutions: “We don’t swap the approach, we adjust solutions.” Whether developing a 140-metre custom yacht or a 40-foot production model, the guiding principles remain the same; functionality, elegance and clean lines, with the design tuned to the parameters of scale, cost and build method.This cross-pollination between segments has become a defining strength of the studio. Insights from production projects sharpen an awareness of efficiency and usability that benefits custom yachts, and vice versa.. As Valtorta notes, the detailing and refinement expected on large superyachts find their way into production models, raising standards across the board.For Martino Majno, the diversity of <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta’s</a> portfolio ensures both creative stimulation and business resilience. “We are busy in several fields, bespoke custom design, semi-production and series production; we find this part very stimulating because the parameters are different and it ensures continuity of boats being built.”Series production remains an important pillar of the business. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta’s</a> long-standing partnership with Beneteau has produced some of the most successful cruising sailing yachts in recent decades, with over 400 units of the Oceanis 51.1 sold since its launch (and more than 10,000 yachts sold over the Oceanis range in the last decade).<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/374552/image/large-37b2b71f4fc98d9fc3cf5c99c8a6d815.png" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/374552">A philosophy of silent luxuryIf <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta’s</a> versatility defines its scope, its design language defines its identity. “We believe in silent luxury,” says Valtorta. “We don’t shout with design. Instead, we create spaces where elegance comes through proportions, lights, materials and colors.” This philosophy favours architectural coherence over ostentation, with interiors that remain timeless and adaptable to different owners.For Gino, this philosophy is deeply human-centred. “Luxury in yachting is about more than styling. It’s about creating a functional, well-organised space that allows owners to fully immerse themselves in the natural environment.” Pedol echoes this sentiment, underlining the importance of a connection to the sea: “Outdoor living is an essential aspect of our design.”This ethos has been central to <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta’s</a> superyacht work since Project Light, an 80-metre designed in 2006. “Starting with Project Light 80m in 2006, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. (Company)">Nauta</a> has been a forerunner of a new generation of superyachts, with elegant, soberly centre-positioned glass-wrapped superstructures, so that much more importance is devoted to the exterior spaces,” explains Pedol. “This design vision enhances a higher quality of life on board, achieved through blending with the surrounding environment.”The principle has continued to evolve. “We’ve been working on this for some time, evolving the design to make our yachts more autonomous, efficient and functional, without compromising on the quality of spaces, materials and finishes,” adds Gino.This approach is visible in <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/9442" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Dragonfly142.0m (465'11&quot;)Lürssen Yachts2024">Dragonfly</a>, where a reimagined interior layout introduced a flowing, circulation through the decks, creating a new way of experiencing space at sea. (Company)">Nauta’s</a> workload is both diverse and steady, yet the studio is cautious about growth. “We don’t want to be 100 people,” notes Valtorta. “We want to remain at a human scale, a studio where ideas are shared around a single table.”What unites this body of work is continuity: a belief that good design lies not in spectacle, but in creating yachts that feel natural to live aboard. “A yacht should never feel like a hotel,” says Valtorta. “It must feel like a boat, a place where you connect to the sea, where space, function and beauty work together.”Nearly four decades on from its founding, <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/153" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Nauta Yachts S.r.l. The twin rudders are developed to maintain control even if the vessel heels, through precise handling at the helm. Investment fund acquires majority stake in Absolute Yachts

Wise Equity has announced its acquisition of a majority stake in Absolute Yachts, which is headquartered in Podenzano, Italy.

A group of 16 leading boat manufacturers and eight industry associations have come together to develop the first-ever environmental footprint methodology for recreational boats under 24 metres.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/308823/image/large-7f755a2c28b948b5137b3cb872f411d2.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/308823">Tackling climate change and minimising environmental impact a is a significant challenge for the yachting industry. In the second phase, the focus will be on implementing this with a comprehensive materials database and user-friendly calculation tool.&nbsp;This will allow manufacturers to conduct eco-design and comprehensively reduce environmental impact, as well as communicate the environmental footprint to consumers, stakeholders and regulators. The project hopes to eventually go beyond carbon emissions and include other critical environmental indicators.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/308824/image/large-13ce8e821b3be7401b58db04e363f78a.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/308824">“The outcomes will allow companies of all sizes to access the green transition without greenwashing, reduce environmental impact and proactively shape the regulatory approach in Europe and globally,” added Robert Marx.This combined effort will allow the yachting industry to comply with the latest EU environmental legislation and be ahead of the regulatory curve. The project has already been presented to the EU Commission and has received strong support.The threshold of 24 metres was chosen to align with EU regulations, and will be based on a coherent Life Cycle Assessment approach, following the stringent EU Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules.“We need a proactive and pragmatic approach to sustainability and this project will develop the tools that industry needs,” concluded Robert Marx.
