We visited everywhere from Madagascar and Zanzibar to Reunion and the further corners of the Seychelles. The experience was mesmerising and ignited my passion for the yachting world. &nbsp;Upon returning to the United Kingdom, I initially pursued a law degree with the intention of eventually taking legal articles. However, after completing my studies at the College of Law, I made the bold decision to pursue my passion and enrolled at the United Kingdom Sailing Academy (UKSA), where I obtained my Yachtmaster qualification. Subsequently, I then joined the crew of a 40-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/23" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Lürssen Yachts (Company)">Lürssen</a> Ketch as a deckhand. One of my earliest sources of inspiration was Malcolm Maclean, I read all his articles in the nineties and noughties. Additionally, I happened to live near someone who introduced me to Tim Wiltshire at <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/159" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Burgess (Company)">Burgess</a> and I pestered him for years for a job. He would regularly invite me to his office in Pall Mall and offer words of support and encouragement, which kept me motivated and I have always been grateful. Instead it has witnessed a return to more normal levels of activity. This comprehensive perspective equips me to perceive the multitude of aspects involved and to foresee potential issues before they escalate into problems.In the world of yachting, captains and brokers often find themselves on opposite sides, with the broker's role sometimes concluding the captain's tenure or adding complexity to their responsibilities. I acknowledge and appreciate this delicate balance. Recognising that, in the end, we both serve the same ultimate client, and if you are each respectful and appreciative or the others role and responsibilities than actually a broker and captain can make a good team each acting as a check and balance on the other and this can often be the best way to serve the client. It also means I am comfortable working with new constructions and we are currently trying to find the right shipyard to partner with. There are advantages and disadvantages associated with this approach for all parties involved, so our primary focus is on identifying the ideal match.How does&nbsp;<a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6312" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Superyacht Partners (Company)">Superyacht Partners</a>&nbsp;incorporate sustainability initiatives and promote environmentally-friendly practices within the superyacht industry?&nbsp;Our commitment to sustainability is reflected in our heavy focus on sailboats. Three of our team members have a deep-rooted connection to sailing, and it's an integral part of our DNA. We recognise that the next generation of clients, who are already emerging, are increasingly interested in sailboats.In the past eight years, there has been a notable shift in the industry towards explorer yachts and sailboat sales have declined. However, we anticipate that this trend will change. We are closely monitoring opportunities in the market for very large sailboats, renewable fuels, sail-assisted motorboats, and advancements in wingsail technology.I am conscious of our real responsibility here and it is something I think about constantly both in work and my personal life. In the future, we anticipate engaging in more partnerships with firms specialising in sustainable yacht solutions. Influencer-type tactics will not suffice in this field, as you'll be dealing with some of the world's smartest and most successful individuals, each with their strong perspectives.&nbsp;Moreover, it's crucial to have a deep understanding of the market, familiarise yourself with available vessels, grasp pricing dynamics, become knowledgeable about shipyards, and discern the factors that distinguish a wise investment from a poor one. In today's landscape, clients have access to a wealth of information, often on par with what professionals possess, along with their own insider networks. If they are better informed than you, the challenge is in demonstrating your value.Emotional intelligence is equally essential. Yacht purchases are inherently emotional, and it's vital to ensure that the process remains enjoyable, even during challenging times. Moreover, fostering strong relationships with fellow stakeholders such as lawyers, surveyors, insurers, and finance brokers is paramount. This collaborative network greatly facilitates deal-making, particularly when all parties are already acquainted and trust one another.Any exciting future plans and developments you would like to unveil?Our partners have delivered an impressive number of sales in the past two years, granting us the opportunity to reassess our strategies. We're currently focused on refining our marketing approach, website, social presence, and corporate strategy. This phase of the company's growth is particularly exciting for me.One area of interest is social media. Social media has become a vital part of the client journey, and we aim to enhance our approach. While many currently focus on glossy lifestyle content, we believe there's room for more valuable and substantive content. Instead of the typical champagne and sunset imagery, we aspire to lead in delivering content that delves into the yacht's distinguishing features and benefits, its unique selling points, market positioning in terms of price per GT compared to competitors, and the ideal owner or usage profile for the yacht.Finally, personally, if you could invest in a yacht, what would you choose and why?I would invest in a yacht, and in fact, I have in the past once owned a 12.8-metre 1980 Whitby, which allowed me to travel on a remarkable three-year journey cruising the Caribbean and Central America, it was an unforgettable experience.If I were to invest in yachts today, I'd take inspiration from one of my favourite clients and create a diverse fleet. Firstly, a small dayboat, such as a <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5745" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Goldfish Boat (Company)">Goldfish</a>, possibly the 15.3-metre 49 Bullet or the 10.3-metre X10 Explorer, a versatile utility rib that excels in its class.I'd also opt for a sailboat, specifically a performance cruiser. Recently, I had the opportunity to sail on a 21.95-metre sailing yacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/6465" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Shipman Yachts (Company)">Shipman</a> 72 Nadejda, which left a lasting impression. It offers the ability to sail with ease, even with just two people, yet comfortably accommodates two families for extended voyages. It's fast, luxurious, and exceptionally user-friendly.To complete the fleet, I'd choose a sizeable motorboat. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 50 and <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 2020 yacht concepts, SYT talked to the Italian shipyard and designer <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a> about the inspiration behind the daring designs.Eyebrows were raised when the Viareggio-based builder first released renders of its 70-metre <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 2020 concept, now revisited in collaboration with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a>. Opinion was split opinion between the ‘love it’ and ‘hate it’ schools of thought.&nbsp;Two things prompted confusion, even consternation, among the doubters. Firstly, it resembled a Canadair water bomber without the wings and tail; and secondly, it came from a family-run shipyard renowned for building tastefully traditional yachts in the discreet style of its Vintage and Classic lines. Undeterred, earlier this year <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> teamed up again with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a> on the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 50 concept, a sub-500GT version of her bigger sister.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/284304/image/large-2840db07231eae823d9695e6a90b625c.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/284304">Once you get over the shock of the unexpected, however, the radically different exterior styling starts to make more sense. Aerospace or aeronautical engineering is closely related to the older disciplines of naval architecture and marine engineering. In fact, university curriculums in aeronautical engineering were once much like those for naval architecture and marine engineering students. Seaplanes, flying boats, airships and hydroplanes are the proof that one disciple informs the other and it is no coincidence that they share common technical terms and navigation systems.None of this was lost on Fulvio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a>, head of the family shipyard for the past 40 years, when he found himself delayed at the airport in the winter of 2019 after missing a flight to Sharm El-Sheikh for an end-of-year break in the Egyptian sunshine just prior to the start of the Covid pandemic in Italy.“He spent his time looking out of the window at the different aircraft coming and going,” recounts Ennio Buonomo, sales director and Fulvio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a>’s son-in-law. “The ideas started flowing and while on holiday he sketched out what would become the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 2020. We decided to develop that rough sketch further together with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Tommaso Spadolini</a> for the profile and general arrangement, and with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/5244" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="PierLuigi Ausonio Naval Architecture (Company)">PierLuigi Ausonio</a> for the hull design. Then Italy went into lockdown in March 2020, hence the name of the concept.”<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/111743/image/large-7d8267b1fce4edfca97ffd53888281fc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/111743">One of the aircraft sitting on the tarmac belonged to the fleet of military AWAC (Airborne Warning and Control) planes and its distinctive radar dome mounted on the fuselage was transferred to the yacht concept (although dropped in later versions in favour of a more conventional radar mast). The bulbous nose housing the mooring deck recalls the old NASA space shuttles, whereas the ‘cockpit’ or bridge windscreen was styled by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Spadolini</a> on the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet.The slightly retro aviation references not only lend the concept its unique aesthetics; they also provide an unusual layout. The steel hull below the waterline is devoted to accommodation for 18 crew members (a first officer’s cabin is on main deck below the raised pilothouse), the galley with walk-in cold room, and a beach club in the stern with drop-down terraces. An under lower level houses a large laundry and linen store. On main deck there are four guest suites forward and the main saloon aft. A corridor leading to the aft deck is flanked on both sides by open deck space for tenders are toys. Folding bulwarks provide for easy launching by beam cranes.&nbsp;More surprising is the sundeck with its 6 x 2-metre swimming pool amidships, which Buonomo compares to the pool deck of some cruise ships. In fact, the area is vast for the size of yacht, especially when combined with a forward deck on a higher level in front of the radar mast that can be accessed from the pool area, by lift from the lower deck, or from the raised pilothouse. &nbsp;“There are yachts out there – and we’ve built one ourselves – with the pool on the foredeck,” says Buonomo. “The problem is they offer little in the way of privacy because they’re in full view of the wheelhouse. Similarly, a pool on the aft deck can’t be used when you’re stern to in the marina and the crew need to get to the mooring stations. The pool deck on the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 2020 has no such issues and it’s in the most stable place in the middle of the yacht.”&nbsp;The two-piece superstructure opens up other exciting layout options. As well as the pilothouse, the forward section houses a cinema, combined gym and spa, and the captain’s cabin. The aft section is a duplex apartment for the owner’s exclusive use with a private office and lounge, and a spacious suite with a forward-facing balcony above. The aft-facing bed looks out through a wall of tilted glass over the stern of the yacht. Topped by a touch-and-go helipad, the owner’s area can be accessed by a private lift that descends all the way to the beach club.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/284319/image/large-430240ac6575b58cd8bc1f7726752e86.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/284319">&nbsp;The smaller <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 50 concept was created togther with <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Spadolini</a> as a more compact version of the 70-metre concept, which is at least three times the volume. Despite the difference in size, the designer managed to retain the same dynamic styling along with the helipad and a smaller scale pool deck. A novel feature, which also reduces the calculable gross tonnage, is the outdoor lounge on main deck, a kind of protected ‘loggia’ filled with dappled light from the glass-bottomed pool above.&nbsp;“The Jet 50 was created in the same spirit as the original Jet 2020 to open up the concept to a wider clientele in a sub-500T package,” says <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/118" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Studio Arch. Tommaso Spadolini (Company)">Spadolini</a>. “Clearly the volume constraints meant we had to make some concessions, so the master stateroom is on the main deck forward, the area under the helipad becomes an open-air dining area, the four guest suites are relocated to the lower deck, and the beach club becomes a tender garage. But the basic concept is the same.”&nbsp;The shipyard says it is able to offer hybrid diesel-electric propulsion and technical space has also been reserved on board for auxiliary battery banks to supplement hotel loads at anchor even if a client should choose conventional propulsion. The <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> Jet 50 could also be built entirely of aluminium with minimal re-engineering for higher cruising speeds.Both concepts have been developed to the point whereby building can begin at short notice. The daring designs are clearly passion projects for Fulvio <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/162" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Codecasa S.p.A. (Company)">Codecasa</a> and there is even talk of starting construction on speculation. This would be a brave move, but a sense of adventure can bring its own rewards.
