The superyacht dates back to 1927 when she was first designed by <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/94" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cox & Stevens (Company)">Cox &amp; Stevens</a>&nbsp;and later launched at the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/263" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft (Company)">Krupp Germania Werft</a> in Germany in the year 1930. She was bought by Paul Getty in 1988 and was completely refitted in 1993 and 1999 with design updates by the late <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/17" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Bannenberg & Rowell Design (Company)">Jon Bannenberg</a>. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/97" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Talitha82.6m (270'12&quot;)Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft1930">Talitha</a> nowadays combines the finest Art Deco features with contemporary style in her entertainment systems, sports equipment and functionality. <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/97" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Talitha82.6m (270'12&quot;)Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft1930">Talitha</a> can accommodate up to 12 guests on board, 17 crew and has a maximum speed of 14.6 knots with a cruising speed of 13 knots.

According to German yacht spotters, the classic 71.5-metre 1931 superyacht <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3492" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Argossy71.5m (234'7&quot;)Krupp Germania Werft1931">Argossy</a>, previously Rossy One and originally Argosy, was discharged from a carrier vessel in Brake on 3rd January 2022. First arriving in Bremerhaven, the yacht was then towed by the tug En Avant 13 on the River Weser toward Brake.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/215297/image/large-9601d87e80221c75c403187df34a2d47.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/215297">Like many classic vessels of her pedigree, the yacht has a spotted history, but it is known that in March 2021 she was acquired at an auction in Napoli, where she had laid-up after an incomplete rebuild for many years. Stone of the New York bank Hayden-Stone, to designs by the legendary <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/94" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Cox & Stevens (Company)">Cox &amp; Stevens</a>. In 1934 she was sold to Sir Thomas Sopwith to be used as an escort ship to the <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Company/192" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard (Company)">Camper and Nicholsons</a> 39.56-metre J-Class <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/621" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Endeavour39.56m (129'9&quot;)Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard1934">Endeavour</a>. Sopwith rechristened the yacht Vita, and it is believed that she escorted <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/621" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Endeavour39.56m (129'9&quot;)Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard1934">Endeavour</a> across the Atlantic to accompany her during her 1934 America's Cup races in Newport Rhode Island.<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/51135/image/large-54de98309983e97d4dfcbee91353c656.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/51135"><img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/215298/image/large-a757da487a353cceba3b73109602f1f0.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/215298">Sopwith retained the yacht until 1937 when his new yacht Philante, now <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/932" href="#managed-by-system" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="Norge76.26m (250'2&quot;)Camper & Nicholsons Shipyard1937">Norge</a>, was completed for him. At this time Vita changed hands and was purchased by a French resident. While her wartime activities are unknown, by 1947 she was armed and renamed Ben Hecht, under which name she changed hands a number of times, until 1957 when she was put to work as a ferry running between Capri and Naples under the name Santa Maria Del Mare.&nbsp;In 2007 she was sold to an Italian owner and became Rossy One.&nbsp;<img src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/215299/image/large-bf49ba3a00e17d7c8db9181cdc559e99.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/215299">Under the name Rossy One restoration work began in Naples and <a href="https://www.superyachttimes.com/yacht-news/the-rebuild-of-superyacht-santa-maria-del-mare-1931" rel="noopener noreferrer" target="_blank" title="">Italian designer Luca Dini was commissioned to return her to her classic glory</a>, creating a series of designs for the restoration of the superyacht. However, the rebuild project stalled and was latterly abandoned. The 1931 classic yacht Argossy has been spotted in Germany where she may now be about to undergo restoration.

It has to be said, sometimes older is better and there are many in the industry who would say that sailing on a vintage yacht gives an unbeatable feeling which cannot be matched by today's high-tech vessels. 1930 superyacht Talitha in Maiori

G.L Watson &amp; Co. has announced an opportunity to restore a significant, high pedigree yacht to her former glory. The 48 metre Caritas was built in 1925 by the Krupp shipyard to a Cox &amp; Stevens design for J.P. Bartram, a New York sugar magnate. After being acquired, like many vessels at this time, by the Navy in 1941, she served for four years before being decommissioned in 1945.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153510/image/large-629d6e6364d95e2874bba43e5533ada7.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153510">Unfortunately, after the war years Caritas has been long forgotten, and G.L. Watson report that they rediscovered just in time to save her from being scrapped. In her present state she is largely original with timber decks, some interior panelling and no welded repairs. All engines, pipework and wiring have been removed prior to her moving to her current location.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153511/image/large-63afa7e34292d87629eb04d424a3dafe.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153511">Restored to modern superyacht standards and regulations, her interior volume will provide accommodation for up to 10 guests with a spacious main salon and separate dining room on the main deck. The shade deck is large enough to provide ample space for dining, lounging or entertaining outdoors, as well as storage for a motor launch, RIB and dinghies.<img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/153512/image/large-d78d898f474de9a103b7eb95688c6634.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/153512">As is typical with American yachts of the period, the whole aft main deck is shaded by an elegant sun awning creating a comfortable and private space for dining and lounging above the yacht’s counter stern.The current condition of Caritas makes her an ideal candidate for restoration projects similar to those completed on Blue Bird, Nahlin and most recently, Malahne.G. Luca Dini has released more information to SuperYachtTimes.com about a highly impressive 71m rebuilt project, taking place in Italy. Originally built 1931 by Krupp shipyard in Germany as Argosy, she was sold in 1934 to Sir Thomas Sopwith, to be used as an escort ship to Endeavour, under her new name Vita.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/129719/image/large-346c723c10b1f0b615b7f58e7bfca4dc.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129719" class="legacy">Vita was sold again in 1937, and was used by the US Navy in WWII. Since WWII, she was sold at least twice (as Abril and Satira) and served as a ferry under the name <a data-gid="gid://syiq/Yacht/3492" data-legacy="true" href="#managed-by-application">Santa Maria Del Mare</a>.<img alt="" src="https://photo-assets.superyachttimes.com/photo/129720/image/large-a780ff6d3092e1aee1e944c7b5cda68d.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129720" class="legacy">This 71m superyacht is now being totally rebuilt by an Italian shipyard. The yacht is Italian flagged, and will sail under Rina class. The 71.1m Haida G, originally Haida, was built at Krupp Germania Werft in Kiel in 1929 for millionaire yeast producer Max C. Fleischmann (1877-1952) following plans drafted by the New York naval architects Cox and Stevens and today, 80 years after her launch, she still graces the ocean with her unique style following an impeccable restoration. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129410/image/large-ebb7801ef3acbb73bed0f5eb823e6fe8.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129410">Haida, as she was then known, was constructed to be especially strong for long scientific, fishing, and pleasure cruises in the Pacific waters off the Californian coast. Using the latest technology of the time, the vessel was equipped with the twin diesel engines that still propel her to this day. Her fuel capacity of 150 tons allowed a range of nearly 8000 nautical miles enabling her to travel from San Francisco to Singapore non-stop. After completion in 1929, and following a passage from Germany via New York and through the Panama Canal, her owner berthed Haida at the Santa Barbara Yacht Club, California. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129411/image/large-9485a1df9b58918ea5de13d4fd2eab32.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129411">As with many of his yachts before and after, Max C. Fleischmann named his ship after the native tribe of Queen Charlotte Island whose seafaring skills he admired so much. Fleischmann, who had a reputation of being slightly eccentric, had the beautiful ship painted black. After more than ten joyous years at sea, Haida found a new mission when Mr. Fleischmann sold the yacht to the US Navy in October 1940. The ship was completely refurbished and began a new duty as a naval vessel: the bowsprit was removed, radar was installed, and a 3.5” gun was mounted on the forecastle. Warren A. Cabral, who served on board the ship, recently said he could still remember how the exquisite wood panelling was roughly covered with grey paint. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129412/image/large-fbc596df9b7b90e4ef7bb4dd93906bcd.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129412">Under the name USS Argus, identification number “PY14”, the yacht protected the coast in the Patrol Force of the 12th Naval District out of San Francisco. She was briefly lent to the United States Geodetic Survey, returning to the Navy after eight months. On October 29th, 1944 the Argus rescued the shipwrecked sailors from the Liberty vessel John A. Johnson, sunk in the Pacific by a submarine. Argus was decommissioned in 1946 and purchased by a private owner who restored her to her former glory as a pleasure craft. Renamed Sarina, she was owned by the Egyptian cotton magnate Maurice Ada and spent a number of years in Alexandria. During a political disturbance, her owner moved the yacht to the South of France. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129413/image/large-cb2c86229437d84b0d1705ec6f402da4.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129413">A happy new era began when, after a year in the hands of American industrialist Larry Green, she came into the ownership of British Member of Parliament, Loel Guinness in 1969. He kept Sarina for more than ten years and spared no expense to see that the yacht remained in excellent shape. In 1979 Guinness’ health forced him to sell the beautiful vessel to film producer Robert Stigwood. Stigwood redecorated the interior in an English country house style. Also around this time a false second funnel was mounted that characterized Sarina’s appearance for many years. The yacht was the centre of Stigwood’s social life, undertaking long voyages throughout Europe and the Caribbean. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129414/image/large-f155b8dbc2f61e43ee984e106868fc62.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/127835">In 1981 Sarina was sold yet again. Her new Greek owner renamed her Rosenkavalier, after the opera by Richard Strauss. In 1988 Rosenkavalier, like many other classic yachts at that time, was acquired by a Japanese owner. She made the journey to Yokusaka on her own keel, still driven by her original 1929 diesel engines. The ship remained with the Isaka family of Yokohama until 1992, when a Greek yachtsman, bought Rosenkavalier. In 1999, a new owner acquired the vessel, enchanted by her heritage and striving to reconnect her with her origins, she was re-christened Haida G. The renovation began with a refit of the original main engines, which were completely disassembled and overhauled. The interior was entirely stripped and reusable parts carefully reinstalled. The naked hull was sandblasted, and 120 tons of steel replaced. Except for the lovingly restored main engines, the heart of the vessel, all aggregates were replaced and the ship was updated to the highest technical and safety specifications. <img alt="" src="https://syt-store-production.s3.eu-west-1.amazonaws.com/photo/129415/image/large-226af0b663465c675e8a7a13f33cf21f.jpg" data-gid="gid://syiq/Photo/129415">Today, under the command of Captain Julian Legg, Haida G provides all the comfort of a modern luxury yacht for up to 12 charter guests. After the war she had different owners and before sold in 2006 she was known as Te Vega. The Cox &amp; Stevens designed yacht is today owned by an Italian, who keeps her in Italy.
